Nausea from ferry trip to Cozumel??
I've read in a couple of places that the ferry trip to Cozumel can be quite rough. Anyone had that experience? I KNOW it's only 45 min., but if you're prone to seasickness, it can be a LONG time! Any info would be appreciated...thank you!

I had a problem only once, after a long bus ride. I have seen people getting sick though - the staff provided bags for them to use. If it's not rough, it's not a problem, but you might want to take some gravol if you think you're prone to seasickness.

Personally, I don't think the average crossing is rough at all, but I'm not everybody. Take your Dramamine (or whatever) well before you board. Some people swear that sitting on the open boat helps them cope, others say they can only sit in the inside cabin.

Five years ago, we finally made the crossing from Cozumel back to Playa -- they had shut down the harbor for awhile. It was pouring rain, huge waves...we stood outside and got soaked and hung on for dear life to this huge rope. What a hoot! Of course I was young and playful back then -- a whopping 30.

We were in Mexico at the end of January and did two daytrips to Cozumel. The water was definitely rough...especially if you just ate or drank alcoholic beverages beforehand. We thought that the riding in the lower level was worse than the upper level. And it doesn't help that you can buy beer on the boat! I don't get seasick, but even I felt a little queasy on one of the rides back from Cozumel (and I was 4 months pregnant at the time).

I was with travelling with my niece a couple of years ago and we had to take the ferry across after having visited Tulum..well I thought it was a pretty rough crossing but I never realized how rough my niece found it and how close she came to needing that bag really bad! I don't know however whether that's normal or if it was just a bad day...
I traveled the ferry in May of 1999. Between the extremely rough ride and the gaseous fumes of diesel that was pouring into my nostrils, I thought I was going to dye, or wish that I would because I have never felt so sick in my life! I have never had motion sickness like that before and hope I never do again. Laying on the bottom of the boat outside seemed to be my best option. Indoors was BAD, very BAD!

My husband and I were on an extremely rough crossing. We are sure the staff must have had bets on how many people would be sick. One of the staff opened a door at the back and held his five fingers up. Another staff member held his five fingers up to another and on it went. One of the people looked very happy when he saw the 5. Five people had used the sickness bags.
