Set up something when you get there. Claro and Movil are the two cell operators in Panama.

My North American service provider suggested I buy a phone there. Buying cards (time) is easy at any shopping mall or convenience store and inexpensive. I lived in Panama and visit frequently and used Movistar with no problems throughout the country.
NFL games - Bennigans on Avenida Balboa caters to sports lovers - very loud but fun!

Don't do roaming - it will bankrupt you. Lots of places to buy pre-paid phones - $10-$20 get's you a phone and first bit of airtime - there are now 4 operators:

www.movistar.com
www.claro.com.pa
www.digicelpanama.com
Not much to choose between them for prepaid - they all have deals - it's better to have all family on one provider as they do special rates within their own coverage - otherwise it doesn't really matter.
Most of them have triple or quadruple days where you get more bang for your buck....
Cheers,
Andrew

No, you should wait until getting into town you will have a much better choice and prices than at the airport.
Prices depend on whether you are buying a prepaid account or a post paid plan - obviously with the post paid plan you are tying your self in for a minimum of 12 months and therefore they will give you a better deal on the phone - you can get from free to $500+ depending on what plan and what phone.
On prepaid you can get one for as little as $10 or $20 on up.
Cheers,
Andrew
