Monteverde or Arenal?
I am heading to CR in a few weeks and want to do as much as possible in only 4 nights. We want to raft the Pacuare, but we also want to do the canopy zip line tours. Should we do this in the Arenal area or in Monteverde? I realize we are going to be quite limited because of time, but I would also like to find the best place possible. Thank you!

No, sorry. We are definitely rafting the Pacuare. I know that we only have time to visit one other location, and we wanted to do the canopy zip line. I just wasn't sure which place was better? Or I guess the better question would be, which place is feasible considering we are so limited in time.

Hi Chloe -
Monteverde is very unique and beautiful place, but it is also very trying to get there. It will take about 4 - 5 hours (minimum) from San Jose, with a majority of that time spent on bad, washboard, 4 wheel drive type roads. I would not do it unless you have alot of time. The Pacuare trip will be a blast, and can be done in 1, 2, or 3 day options. Depending on your logistics of how you are getting to the put in point on the Pacuare, and then assuming you are getting out at a town called Siquirres (sp?), you can drive directly to Arenal. It would save you a little time, but it may not be worth the logistics nightmare. Arenal is very cool, and a nice way to end your quick trip. I don't remember, but I am sure there are canopy tours there. I know there are a couple right outside of San Jose though. Have fun - CR is a beautiful country!

Thanks for the information. I guess Monteverde is out this time - this is obviously a last minute quick trip, and I realize that I really need to spend more than 4 days down there! As far as the Pacuare is concerned, do you recommend a place to start, or to stay overnight? I've looked into the Pacuare Lodge but can't find any reviews on that place.
Thanks!

I am not sure of any places to stay close to the put in spot we used on the river. I did a three day raft trip on the Pacuare with a company called Coast to Coast, and we stayed overnight on the river two nights. Here is the companies web site we used, and I am giving you the specific address for a trip you may want to consider of 4 days on both the river and a trip to Arenal. http://www.ctocadventures.com/shorteradventure1.html There is another thread on this forum I noticed about rafting in Costa Rica, and alot of rafting companies will pick you up at your hotel in San Jose. I hope this helps...
