Hotel Sugar Beach

Author: Jamie ([email protected]) Message: Stayed four nights in a beautiful boutique hotel in it's own private cove on the pacific ocean. The hotel is called Sugar Beach. The place has a great restaurant, bar, and super beach. The rates were good, the service great and the employees very friendly. I would highly recommend this unique hotel to everyone!! Most of the rooms have great views of the ocean, and iquanas, and monkeys abound

Jamie,
We were at Sugar Beach in Feb and had a great experience. There are great waves on this stretch of beach and did some fantastic boogie boarding. Also so tons of wildlife including monkeys. Food was great and staff friendly. We reupped for next year. I would plan on staying at least three nights.
Arthur

Jamie,
Just got back from Hotel Sugar Beach this weekend. The hotel has just completly renovated all the rooms and added satelite TV's mini bars and phones. Booked a lot of cool tours from the hotel and the staff was very helpful.
Food was the best we had in Costa Rica.
I would add this to my must visit list.
I wish they would inprove the road to the hotel a little. Getting there can be a challange, but worth it.
All the Howler Monkeys I've seen in my trips to Costa Rica are 'safe' to be around. They generally sleep the day away, and become more active at sunset and sunrise. I have heard of Monkeys in the Manuel Antonio park 'stealing' fruit, etc. from tourist, if packs are within reach, etc, but I've never heard of anyone being biten or anything like that! Have not been to this particular hotel, so I can't comment on how many monkeys are around the area, but for the poster asking which type of monkeys, I'd guess that they are probably Howlers. Those are the only kinds of monkeys I've seen in that region. I saw many other species in and around Manuel Antonio and the Osa area, but just Howlers in the northern beach areas.

Hi, My family is going to CR in mid April. Was there a nice pool at Sugar Beach? Any shade on the beach? Are there taxis or is it pretty self-contained? Thinking of Tango Mar, but it may be too far. What were the highlights of your trip?We like a tropical type of area and since we will have to skip Monteverde (time Factor)would like to see a rainforest. Manuel antonio??? Any thoughts appreciated. Thank, Phyllis
Phyllis,
Yes, Sugar Beach has a fantastic pool. They have some pretty good pictures of it on their web-site www.sugar-beach.com
In answer to your next question, yes, you can have a taxi pick you up at the hotel, but they do have an activity desk where you can book probalbly 15 differect tours and the tour company will pick you up right at the hotel. The food at the restaurant is great and the sunsets you will see from the restaurant will stay with you the rest of your life!!
We saw all kinds of wildlife on the property, from monkeys, iguanas, to the most beautiful birds we have ever seen.
We plan on going back as soon as we can save up more money!
Jamie
