Hello from Shillmac

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to drop in and say hello and thanks again to all those well wishers from Fodor's who had kind words as we prepared to travel to Tortola for the beach wedding of our oldest daughter. It was a truly beautiful ceremony with a fabulous sunset and their sailboat forming the backdrop. Can't wait to see photos! We had a great time--the BVI is a lovely place to visit.

Leaving early in the a.m. for Costa Rica--gotta take my heart home for a few weeks! I wish all of you safe travel and happy Fodoring during the coming weeks.

By the way, heard from Neta this morning, and she and Arbel are busy as can be with all kinds of business projects. Still developing and selling Costa Rica packages, and Arbel has also started a weekly cartoon sydication online. She sent a link to the first one. He is such a wonderful artist.

Catch up with you soon! Jill

Thanks Tully, Percy, and David,
We have arrived safely in CR and are off to a great time already--at Savegre near San Gerardo de Dota now. Went birding this morning with Melvin--saw a few new ones, and had a quetzal just outside our patio door. Can't beat a deal like that!
We have our daughter and little Isabelle with us and Isabelle enjoying the birds especially the hummingbirds.
Jamie our daughter was attacked in San Joaquin by a German Shepherd yesterday. Bitten on one arm, deep puncture, scratch deeply on the other. It was a freaky accident, and could have been worse. We got her a tetanus, and the family who owns the dog have assured us he has been vaccinated. Troubling, but we are trusting them. They are one of the host families for the language school and the folks at the school know and trust them as well. She is okay, but sore and bruised today. What a way to start a vacation!
Good to hear from all of you. Hoping to meet Lisa in Manuel Antonio.
Hasta luego!
Jill

Thanks,JayneAnn, it's on to Manuel Antonio this a.m. We are traveling with friends this week, so showing them some highlights. They have enjoyed Savegre and are looking forward to monkeys! Hoping we can make it okay. Lisa in Manuel Antonio has e-mailed me that a bridge is out north of Dominical. I hadn't thought about that! Later.. .

Thanks, Percy. We are back at Hotel Villa Bonita in Alajuela now, just spent the past 3 nights at Costa Verde in Manuel Antonio. Gonna rest up a couple of days--take the people who are traveling with us to Poas and La Paz tomorrow, have dinner tomorrow night with our Costa Rican friends in San Joaquin de Flores. Spent part of the afternoon today at Zoo Ave. Isabelle loved it--even more than last year when she was only 5 months!

A highlight so far has been meeting Latitude9Lisa while in Manuel Antonio. She and her husband met us for drinks at Costa Verde one night. They are such a delightful couple. We had a very nice visit and a lot of laughs. She is not only very helpful on this board, but a very genuine and friendly person "in person". Our fridge at the hotel was stocked when we arrived (thanks to her) and Isabelle was thrilled to have some yogurt con frutas tropicales right off the bat! Lisa, if you are reading this, thanks again!

Percy, try to behave yourself! Mara, I'm saving your aquacatillo seed digested by the quetzal and deposited right at my feet! Saludos! Jill

Sound like you are having a terrific time.

Your friends should love La Paz and Psoas..let us hope for a clear morning when they arrive at Psoas.

Oh I am sure Isabelle would love Zoo Avenue.

I enjoyed it so I can just imagine what Isabelle sees through her eyes !!!!

Yes, shillmac I am trying to behave..it is a tough job.

Continue having a great time and remember who ordered the weather( oh how soon they forget).

Take Care
Percy

Jill - Lucky you! Continue to have a great time. I know how much you love Costa Rica. Send me a pic of Isabelle when you get a chance. I would love to see just how much she has grown.

So glad you were able to get-together with Latitude9Lisa.

We must have an Oklahoma get-together soon! Sometime this fall?

Hi Sharon and Percy,
Wondering how the weather is in Oklahoma and Canada respectively???
We have "toured" part of the central valley area today--my favorite part, the loop from Alajuela to Heredia. Had intentions of seeing Poas, but woke up to a drizzly day and it stayed cloudy all day.

Instead we went to the Doka Estate for the coffee tour, drove up to Bosque de Fraijanes where Isabelle had a great time playing with the many school kids who were on an outing from school. It's a great place, and usually a little quieter--lovely views from there. Had lunch at Chubasco's--it was excellent and we were glad we stopped there. Beautiful restaurant and excellent food. Visiting familia tica tonight for dinner. . .hope all is well with both of you! Isabelle sends her love. . .she has blown kisses to everyone she has seen in Costa Rica!

Hola otra vez, Jill...

In Oklahoma it is in the 90s. It felt great this morning when I left for the gym... 68 degrees... today's high was 96. We have lot's of sun and no signs of rain anytime soon.

Our AC is working well - had a new unit put in last winter; which Ray and I are glad we did!

Jill: Great to hear that you arrived safely in the Central Valley! Many thanks for your kind words and it was great that you were able to visit with us in Manuel Antonio during your vacation. Your entire family was a joy to meet and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! I don't think Jim could get a word in edgewise as we were talking so much. (Sorry about that Jim!) Isabelle is an absolute living doll! She is so much fun and a real "little lady"! She is just as adorable in person as her pics. Once again, it was great meeting all of you. Jill, you are a super special person! Safe travels and keep us posted. Lisa

Hey Percy, Sharon, Molly2, and Lisa,

Good to hear from all of you. Ooh, those temps! Yuk!

We are in the Arenal area now--Observatory Lodge. Molly2, we do like La Casona--very clean, and we hardly see anyone else, so itīs almost like we have the place to ourselves.

And you were right--the birdwatching there is excellent. We hiked a couple of trails this a.m., and are now in La Fortuna after hiking down to the waterfall (whew!). Gonna spend some time at Baldi Hot Springs later this evening and then try out El Novillo (did I spell that right?) that everyone always speaks so highly of. Weīve eaten there before, but didnīt try the steak! Cano Negro tour tomorrow.

It rained like crazy during the night, lots of thunder and lightening (pretty sure it wásnīt the volcano)! Today has been a gorgeous day, with about 2/3 of Arenal visible.

Lisa, thank you for the nice things you said--especially about our Isabelle. She loved every minute of her time here in Costa Rica this year. So inquisitive, and what better place for that, huh? She was especially fond of playing on the playa. Iīll stay in touch with you as we head to Bocas in 10 days. We are looking forward to that!

Molly2, your seed is safe with me, although youīll not be able to get the full effect of it when it was fresh!

Close encounter with a quetzal, guys!

Percy, my personal rain god, smile on us! Send some rain to Oklahoma--my friends and family are croaking there!

So long for now--took a photo of a huge toad (or frog) right on our porch. He had the prettiest blue eyes you ever saw. Hmmm. . .Iīm thinking he may have been someoneīs prince. . .

The last time I was in Oklahoma and ordered rain....they had a blinding rain storm from Muskogee to Tulsa !!!

we had to pull over on the highway for an hour as we could not drive.

But I will see what I can do!!!

Glad you got to hike down to the waterfall....did you hike back up or did you ride back up!!!.

I think by the time you get through taking Isabelle to Costa Rica( over the years) she will marry a rich Tico!!

Stay away from those poison frogs !!!

Love reading your e-mails so keep us posted.

Hi Molly2, Hi fathie, Hi tully, Ivk, and you know who we have not heard from for a while.... greenfieldhunter and where is dfarmer!??

Good Night all

Percy
