Flying in to Liberia in January...

I am planning a trip to Costa Rica in January...would most likely fly into Liberia on Vacation Express. I would be there a week and am thinking a mixture of 3-4 days of adventure and the rest 'beach' time. They have some packages at some hotels in the NW (Allegro Resort Papagayo, Barcelo Playa Langosta, Blue Bay Papagayo, Flamingo Beach Resort, Melia Playa Conchal, and Sol Playa Hermosa) or I could do something on my own. Any suggestions??

Phil B.

Did a package deal into Liberia to the Melia Conchal..you can do many things from there, it certainly is a great base from which to explore. For pictures and more info on the Melia please write stat..we are off on Saturday to the Yucatan, but I would go back to C.R. in a heart beat.

+
For these posters or anyone else who's flown to Liberia, is it possible to do so from the US on any of major carriers? I assume that 'Vacation Express' is part of a package ??? I'd love to go back to CR without hassle of going thru San Jose to get to the beach (Pacific side).

A-Z, no such luck. As of now, only charters fly to Liberia. No major carriers have scheduled flights to CR other than to San Jose.

To Phil: the places you mention are all fairly large resorts, so if you like these kinds of places then go for it. We went to CR twice and decided to stay at small independent hotels because we are not into big resorts. For us staying at those one-of-a-kind places made our vacation. And I think that we were able to experience the country better that way. These large resorts tend to be faceless and could really be located anywhere in the world, you don't get a good feel for the country if you just stay there.

The alternative is to fly "air fare only" on a charter and rent a car to travel independently or to a smaller facilities.
