Flights to Belize
Has anyone used priceline for flights to Belize? I see that some airlines offer flights that leave in the evening and have an overnight layover somewhere before giong on to Belize. I don't care what time I get there as long as I get there the same day that I leave. Anyone know if priceline will stick you with an overnight layover for this flight? What's a good price for December? If I find anything good I'll be sure to post again.
Thanks for everyone's help so far in planning my trip.

I've used Priceline but not for Belize.
You might also want to check the metasearch travel sites. These sites compare fares from many different travel sites and give you the lowest deals. You can't book directly with them, but you can go to the sites that have the lowest prices and book there.
There are a number of them -- kayak.com, sidestep.com, farechase.com and others.

We fly from a small airport in the midwest and simply can't get home from Belize in one day. There's an overnight in Dallas or Chicago. The flights just leave too late in the day from BZE for us to make a connection to our small home airport (CID).
This time of year it's difficult to even get down there in one day, at least on American Airlines.
Our solution for our trip next week is to take the extra travel time and turn it into an adventure by flying into Cancun and taking the bus to the border. I'd much rather spend the night in Tulum than Chicago.....

I've always run into the same problem when looking for flights to Belize from the U.S. I get the impression there are no flights that arrive and depart after dark. Is that true? That seems to mean that you have to leave early enough in the day from a gateway (like Miami or Houston) in order to arrive before sunset and for that flight to turn around and get out too. That makes connecting to those flights more of a problem if you originate from too far away.
This is the impression I get.

Actually, I found a great flight on Delta through www.flycheapabroad.com. The site specializes in Latin American flights. The fare was less than Delta's website, and anything I found on kayak.com. And, I am from Chicago so we leave at 8:20am, connect in ATL, and arrive at 2:51pm - no time change even. Fantastic. Hope that helps someone else.

Just a note on Delta service to Belize. I'm thinking about booking a flight with FF miles, but be aware that it on a regional jet. So you'll be flying to a foreign country on a plane that was designed to replace prop plans on 500-mile-or-less trips.

I took a bus into Belize from Mexico. Like the other passengers on the bus, my face dropped when I saw Belize town. I've been to a fair number of places before where I was the only white face around but though I had no trouble there, you could see that many of the locals did not like "whitey". The place seemed to be poor and rundown and I suspect that many were out of work. I got a bus back to Mexico later that day.
This is a personal opinion that others might not share but I'd say pick somewhere else.

We typically spend more than 24 hours getting from our home airport (Portland, OR) to Belize or Honduras - l o n g day. We can't fly straight from Portland to Miami is the problem.
Kaneda - I'm so sorry you didn't just head straight out of Belize City as the huge majority of folks do - a ferry to Caulker or a bus to San Ignacio and you might have felt so differently. We spent nearly a month in Belize in 2003 and found the people to be very welcoming - it was tough to leave. Lots of poverty but culturally and geographically rich - we loved every place we stayed and everything we did.

Hopefulist. I'm not much of a person so that wouldn't really have suited me. I went on to Guatemala from there, to Flores (a nice little town by a lake) and then onto Tikal which is a huge area of ancient ruins, then to Guatemala City (a cheap flight or the 12 hour bus ride over rough roads, which I took) and back into Mexico again (some 1300 historical sites of which only 450 are opened so far).
