Do you need ID to use buses between cities in Mexico?
I am travelling by bus in Mexico, do I need ID to buy a ticket or board the bus? Also, is it possible to change dollars for pesos in a casa de cambio in Mexico City without ID?

Why would you not have ID, whether for that particular purpose or otherwise? Especially outside one's own country I always think it's a good idea, sometimes it's the law. Otherwise how will they identify your body?

When he posted that he wanted to leave his passport w/ a friend, several people on Thorntree suggested he carry a photocopy. One of his responses : >>Thanks for the reply, but the question wasn't really answered. My question was what were the chances I could get from DF to Guanajuato and back without being asked for any ID, including photocopies.<< He is very adamant that he wants to carry absolutely no identification.

Banks do require ID. Cambios do not, in my personal PV experience the past 3 years at a dozen different cambios around town. No one asked for ID for a $100 exchange, not once.
Doesn't mean this story above isn't fishy.

I've travelled a fair amount by bus in Mexico. I have not been asked in my experience for my passport or other ID to buy a ticket or to board however you should have your passport and FMM on you; the Mexican army occasionally does checks where they ask for ID; this happened to me last year on a bus ride between Queretaro and San Luis Potosí. I was headed home so I did have it--I'm lucky the buses weren't stopped when I went to San Miguel de Allende & Guanajuato from Queretaro for day trips as I didn't think to bring my passport with me those days!

>>Why do you call everyone you don't like a troll?<<
I don't -- did you happen to read his posts on Thorntree????
Baldone called him a 'little out there' and I upped the ante to nut case/troll. I actually seldom use the "t" word. A lot less than many people. He didn't like the answers here any more than the ones he got on Thorntree so he's likely out there trolling/looking for validation on other sites.

Nothing to be sorry about.
I know things are different different places.
That's why I was extremely clear that my experience was only in PV. Where in the past 3 years at a dozen different cambios, no one has ever requested my ID. Not once.
