David or Panama City for one night?

I am going to Panama in January (solo female traveler) and because I do not want to be traveling via boat at night to my first destination (Boca Brava) I plan to either stay one night in Panama City and then fly to David on the early flight..then take the boat to BB or fly on the late afternoon flight the same day I arrive from the US to David, stay overnight there and then continue on the in the morning.

I would like a place to explore just a bit on foot and perhaps have dinner/drink... not interested in the "club scene"...

My flight arrives at 12:30 pm and if I take the afternoon flight I will be in David about 5pm.

On my return flight from Bocas del Toro I will have about 5 hours to explore before I have to be at the international airport...

any thoughts?

I stayed in Panama City for a couple of nights and would not choose to do it again (and I am also a solo female). Instead, I would stay at a property close to the canal, assuming you want to see that (and I only needed about three hours for the whole thing!). The area outside of David is lovely (ie. around Boquete) so maybe you want to consider that.

Thank you both for your reply. It's only because my flight into David (if I took the same day) wouldn't get me in until almost 5pm that I am not thinking of boquete for the one night (I too hear it's lovely)... and yes, the canal is really the only thing I really want to see in PC... can anyone suggest a inexpensive/moderate priced hotel that's close to the canal and regional airport?

@gringoindavid ~ thank you for your reply. I actually decided to stay in Panama City... or just outside the city... so that I could see the canal and also because I would have arrived to late for the mid day flight up to David. But will keep the links for a possible future visit..
