Crossing the Andes from Santiago Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Need info.
We'll be crossing the Andes from Santiago, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 2001. We would like to use the route of the lakes. Any other recommendation? We need info re: lenght of trip, lodging, cost, etc. going via the lakes or any other via. Thanks

We are scheduled to go by the lake route from Puerto Montt, Chile, to Bariloche, Argentina next Feb.

If you look at a map, there is no way to go from Santiago to Buenos Aries by boat across the Andes. I would be interested to know what you are planning.

I think Dave has missunderstood your question. The unique lakes route is from Petrohue(chile) to Bariloche(argentina), really an amazing trip. In 1 day you make this trip. Cost about US$ 110 per person.
You must arrive first to Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, trip departs at 9:00 AM. I suggest to visit Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt surroundings, very nice.
Bariloche is very very nice. Enjoy your trip.
For specific information do not hesitate to contact me.

Here is how we actually did it. We flew from Santiago to Puerto Montt, staying overnight--it's a nice town. A company, Andinas del Sur, did all the transport from Chile to Argentina. Bus the next day past Petrohue and Osorno, by catamaran across the lake to the lovely hotel and overnight at Peulla (pay-OO-yuh). By bus over the border to another catamaran and bus and catamaran to Lake Llanquihue (YAHN-kee-way) to Bariloche. Reminds one a lot of Switzerland. From there flew to BA. E-mail us direct if you have questions.

Dave: We'll be taking a cruise next January from Valparaiso to BA. We would like to do some pre & post cruise tours like Iguazu and also take the route of the lakes to cross from AR to Chile or vice versa. It will be most likely at the end of our cuise in Feb. 2001.

We are looking for imput from other travelers like: lenght of tour (3 or 4 nights), approx cost including air transportation either BA-Bariloche or Santiago-Pt. Montt, best places to stay, places not to be missed, hotels, etc. Can you help? Thanks.
