Caye Caulker Lodging
Hello, I will be traveling in Feb 09 to Belize for two weeks with my 13 year old daughter and will be meeting friends half-way through the trip. The first part of the trip (1 week), I plan to use Caye Caulker as my home base.
Where should we stay? - somewhat budget would be great.
Thanks so much.

My girlfriend and I just got back from Belize, having finished at Caye Caulker.
We stayed at the Rainbow Hotel for U.S. $35.50/night. If you want to use the air conditioning, it costs an additional U.S. $15.00/night.
This is indeed a budget hotel, but the hot water and ceiling fan worked, it had an ocean view, there were no bugs and, hey, you don't visit Caye Caulker to spend all day in your hotel room anyway...

Thanks to both of you. I don't know why I keep forgetting about the Toucan Trail!
I've narrowed it down between Rainbow and Mara's Place. I like that Mara's is close to the Split because my daughter likes to swim. I like the Rainbow because of the central location (Triple J's ferry) and the restaurant.
Does Mara's have a coffee shop and/or restaurant close by?
Thanks again!

The exact location along Front St. doesn't really matter since Front St. is relatively short. It takes maybe 10 minutes to walk from the Split to the Tropical Paradise hotel at the end of it.
There's probably a five-minute walking distance, at max, between Mara's and Rainbow.
