Cancun: Ritz-Carlton

My husband and I are staying at the Ritz-Carlton for our anniversary this summer. Can anyone tell me if the decor of the suites is as a great as its reputation for service? The room ambiance is important to us. Also I am wondering, how is the food in the Club Grille? Thank you!

You will NOT have any problem with that hotel whatsoever! The rooms AND pool area are gorgeous and the food is scrumptious!!

Have a Cuba Libre' and a cigar in the bar, very nice. You won't even know your in Mexico, which is why i wouldn't stay there, not to mention I just dont spend alot of time in the hotel when i travel. Definitley a swank place though.

The Ritz Carlton is an excellent hotel with great service, beautiful rooms and surroundings. We spent our honeymoon there and nothing could have been nicer. We had a beautiful room facing the ocean and the gorgeous pools. That being said, would we go back? No, not to the Ritz because as the previous poster said it is swank. In my opinion a bit too much. Being in the center of the hotel or in one of the gourmet restaurants it would be hard to tell that you were not in New York or San Francisco. It is hard to believe you are in Mexico while at the Ritz Carlton. Had we not been on our honeymoon, we might have been a bit disappointed. However, it is a matter of opinion as to what you might like. It is definitely a gorgeous super deluxe place with a tremendous staff that will cater to your every request.

Thanks for the last two responses. It sounds like the Ritz-Carlton has great amenities, but we won't get the Mexican experience.

Just returned from Cancun less than a week ago. Two ways of addressing your question. Our trip was for our 2nd anniversary. On our anniversary date we stayed at the Ritz. Definitely very nice and very relaxing. I would recommend an ocean front view as opposed to ocean side view. I is very true that you do not get much of a Mexican atmosphere at the Ritz. That is precisely why we only stayed there one night. Also, I know it is the Ritz an maybe because one is staying should expect it but a bottle of water that was not in the mini-bar but rather on the dresser cost us $5.00 dollars. We had assumed it was a courtesy item. Just be aware that everything will probably cost you. The four additional nights we stayed in Cancun, we opted for El Centro (downtown). You will definetely feel in Mexico there. Make sure you try Los Pericos restaurant. I guarantee you will have a great time!

Although we found the hotel as a whole a bit stuffy, our room was unbelievable. It defenitaley had ambiance.

I dont think you can get a "mexican experience" anywhere in Cancun. Its complete with Hard Rock Cafe, All Star Cafe, and every other theme cafe in existance, not to mention alot of other American restaurants. I like Cancun and have been twice, but probably wont go back, unless its over to Isla Mujeres. Trying Playa next trip down.
