We already have our reservations for BDC in February. Our family has two cabinas reserved, Sol & Bambu. They are supposed to be next to each other. I have read many postings here with opinions on different cabinas but have never heard these two mentioned? Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Has anyone been there in mid February? What about the weather and clothing to bring?

I'm not familiar with either of those two; we just got back from BdC. Congo, Lapa, and Mariposa seem to be the ones that get all the talk, but I would say all the cabins we saw were nice. They're all pretty similar - just different variations like king bed vs. doubles, or some having a loft, slightly different view, etc. Are these two along the cliff with the ocean view? If so, you'll love them. I'm not a fan of the garden cabins, but I know other people enjoy them. I just don't want to do the long walk to dinner in the dark through the trails and over the bridge.

I'm betting Suzie2, Tully, or Shillmac will chime in with more info. for you.

I forgot to mention clothing. It should be pretty dry and warm when you go since you won't be there during green season. I'd bring cool, comfortable clothes that you're comfortable hiking in - shorts, casual capris, T-shirts, tanks, bathing suits - and bug spray. Also bring something to carry bottled water in when you're on the trails. I ended up using my camera case because we hadn't brought anything like that along.

Well I won't be much help at all vg! I'm not familiar with either 2 cabinas but (I hate to keep saying this but it's true!) they are all so nice.

Haven't been in Feb but the clothing & misc is the same year round. Light or quick drying clothes are best, definitely not jeans or anything fancy, it is extremely casual there. vg brings up a good point on water - I have a very lightweight backpack (ll bean) that I use on my trips as it is very small but big enough to hold my camera, a flashlight (just in case I'm running late) and a water bottle on the side in netting. Clothespins are great to bring along so you can hang up things and attempt to dry them, good tread shoes plus a pair of water shoes and/or flip-flops.

Pizote is on one side of Sol, but I don't remember exactly where Bambu is--probably on the other side of Sol and I've not ventured over there. We really enjoyed Sol a few years ago and it was my choice again for a few days in early July. At the risk of repeating myself too often (!), Sol has a nice sunny, view-to-the-ocean shower (not all the cabins have this, although all are outside). It has a low wall in front (oceanside) that allows the nice view. There are plants in place of a wall to help with the privacy issue. Have fun!

Weather should be excellent in February. Take clothing that will dry quickly. Zip off quick dry pants are nice to have. Take plenty of socks--at least one pair per day and an extra pair. You can have your clothing laundered (24 hour turnaround) as well. I wear things more than once while there (I may wear a tank top to dinner that I hike in the next day, etc). A sundress or skirt might be nice but certainly not necessary. Leave the hairdryer--too much energy drain.

Bosque del Cabo is a very special place--you'll be so glad you went!

I forgot to mention - we ended up throwing our socks away. They were so yucky and muddy and dusty that we didn't even think they were salvageable, so I'd bring some you don't really care about. Also plastic bags to pack things in that are wet or get muddy. It was quite muddy when we were there - thick, red mud, but if it's dry when you're there, you may not have the same issue.

I'm guessing that your cabins are on the right hand side if you're facing the ocean, but I'm not sure of it.

Ok I'll take a guess too.

We stayed in Gecko, so facing the ocean just to the right is Pizote. I made note of the name so I could request for next trip. Gecko is deluxe and to the left of it are the other deluxes. Pizote is standard and to the right of it are the other standards. To the right of Pizote are two cabinas set closer together than the others. They are nestled in trees, quite a bit of shading, but still on the bluff with ocean views. Pretty sure these are Sol and Bambu. The Howlers were hanging out in the trees there regularly.

So...it's POSSIBLE I had too many Margaritas that day and I could be terribly wrong, but that's my best guess and I'm sticking to it!

Also, agree with everyone that's been there that there's NO bad cabina!

P.S. In addition to the daypack suggestions above, it's wise to carry bug spray. We had to reapply liberally during hikes.

You are right on with the cabinas, HipVirgoChick. Monkeys in those trees quite frequently--makes for some enjoyable afternoons. Also in the trees behind the cabinas. And yes, volcanogirl, they are the ones on the right. A bit more of a walk from the restaurant/bar/pool area, but not inconvenient.

I don't think they'll have the same problem with insects in February. We were there in March and Phillip (the guide) explained that the very dry weather makes a huge difference in the bug population. We didn't use anything and had virtually zero problems--all 7 of us. Hopefully 2plus3sisters will have that experience! And can keep their socks as well!

I was even pleasantly surprised in July that I didn't have much problems with bugs on the trails. I used lotion once, I think. Forgot to apply the rest of the time and no problem except once on the Zapatero Trail when I had stopped to look around a bit--coupla mosquitoes landed and I moved on. That was it. I can remember needing repellent more when we were there in July of 2004, so I guess it varies from time to time depending. . .

hip, I think facing the ocean just to the right of Gecko is Toucan. We were in Toucan, and the couple next to us said the name of their cabin was Gecko. ???

Yes, that is right, come to think of it. I visited quite a bit with the people in the cabin on my left, and their cabin was Tucan. So, is this how it goes, left to right?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Toucan is a deluxe. It's one of those stucco and tile cabins. I think Toucan has Gecko to the left and Pizote to the right when you're facing the ocean.

I agree - we didn't think the right hand side was too far from things, but maybe that's why I never got a seat at the bar in time!

Hi, shillmac - there's a cabin called Manglillo in there somewhere. It's somewhere on the left side and has a loft.

Ok, ok. I'm still confused because I could have sworn the cabina to the right of us was not white stucco, like ours. Oh well, I will go with the general consensus, because I have been known to be less observant than I should be at times!

Now, I can be excited that Pizote will be a surprise! LOL!

Ok, I got this straight from the horses mouth (sorry Kim! ) the order of the cabinas:

"Order of cabinas, from the far left: Mariposa, Congo, Lapa, La Palma, Gecko, Manglillo, Tucan, Pizote, Sol, Bambu, then Vista Mar is just past the trees on the right of Bambu, then my house, then Casa Blanca, then up the hill to Casa Miramar. Garden is Almendra (first cabina as you come off suspension bridge), La Paz is across the garden from Almendra, right next to the pond out there; and then Casa Teca is off to the far left as you get off the path from the suspension bridge".

Whew! Finally got that resolved! Thanks Kim!

Okay, do you SWEAR that's the right order? Because we met the family in Manglillo, and they were definitely not in the cabin next to us (Tucan). I think Manglillo and Gecko should be switched, but now my head is starting to hurt! #-o

Thanks for all the great help with my questions on BDC. I get the idea, they are all great cabinas, mine will be located on the right! Six months to go! Can't wait...

I was in Sol, HVC. I was thinking 6 deluxe and 4 standard, but it must be 7 and 3 instead. I'm not counting Vista Mar and the others.

It's a comfort to know that Kim knows where they are all located!
