Your thoughts on location of apt in Cimiez area of Nice, France,
Looking at an apt that is near the Matisse Museum and the archaelogical museum and the monastery....do you think that is too far out from everything? We won't be swimming on the beach , but would take walks on Promenade and go out to dinner... We have 5 -6 nights so were planning to visit Eze, Cannes, MonteCarlo, Antibes in addition to Nice activities....Also looking at an apt on the Promenade as another choice. Ths is for mid May, the Cimiez apt does not have a.c.....don't know if that will be an issue.

I suggest you find something on the outskirts of Nice. I've never been too fond of Nice, just a large city.
My favorite is Juan-les-Pins, about 10 minutes from Nice. Beach is nice and sandy. Rates are cheaper.
Ambience is great.

Pick another spot in Nice. Chimiez is up a steep & long incline from the "main" section of Nice. You'll get tired of that walk quite soon. We prefer the area a few blocks west of the Negresco Hotel, and a tad east of the Negresco.

I would stay in Cimiez if I had a car that I was using to explore the countryside and hill towns There are frequent buses to and from the city center from Cimiez as well.
The Promenade would be an easier location for seeing the city of Nice, walking the promenade, eating nice dinners out. There is easy bus and train service for your proposed day trips. Try to include Cap Ferrat and the Villa Rothchild, and adjacent town of St-Jean le Port too, a lovely place.
For the Promenade apt in Nice I would have A/C so you can shut out the city noise.

I too think the Cimiez area is a bit out of the way from the things you want to do. Last year I rented an apartment on the Promenade, which had a lot of traffic noise, but was very convenient to buses that went everywhere we wanted to go and very walkable to the central city. And, the water view was spectacular. I think Stu Dudley's recommendation of area is spot on. I wouldn't worry about lack of a/c in May as last year it was none too warm at that time.

I went ahead and booked the Promenade apt. Booking the hotels and apts always makes me kinda nervous, for me it really affects our travel experience...usually in a positive way.
if anyone else wants to take a look, here is the link. Pricey, but the location is great I think.

Thought I would update--the apt on Promenade was lovely, sitting on the balcony and having our own private breakfast and cocktail hours was well worth the cost. The apt was just like the pictures and the owner was so very nice to actually pick us up at the train station.

I feel so bad that I only just now saw the last question! Anyway the apt was very quiet, as long as the slider was closed. I would recommend it, although we found the bed a little cosy...but it was high quality.
