Where to stay & what to do in Gran Canaria?

Hello,

I am visiting Gran Canaria with 2 close friends in late May of this year (over the UK bank holiday).
We are arriving 6pm on Thursday and departing 6pm on Monday - so have 4 full days.

We are in our late 20s and this trip is actually to get a pre-wedding tan - a sort of hen-do for myself but more relaxed and hopefully avoiding the cliche hen-do activities!

We plan on maybe one big night out, but all 3 of us prefer good food and a few tasty cocktails to vodka shots and rolling in at 4am! We'd like a good mix of fun atmosphere and relaxation!

We are stuck on where to stay? Puerto Rico has some nice looking hotels but it this going to be really rowdy? Other options would be Maspalomas or Puerto de Megan. Any advice on where to stay would be great.

Also, are there regular buses from the southern 'resorts' as we'd like to adventure around the island if we can? Is there anything we shouldn't miss while we're out there? Any quaint small towns more in land? Any fab restaurants? Any pretty beach resorts?

Any advice would be great as I am really clueless.

Thanks
Jessica

The largest area for rowdy nightlife is Playa del Ingles which seamlessly adjoins Maspalomas. Lots of drunks and fast food. Arguineguin is less mad and offers a good choice of restaurants and bars.

Puerto Rico is also quite large and busy but offers good restaurants too--avoid the timeshare touts!

We've always loved Mogan. It's much quieter and smaller, but a nice harbour, some good restaurants and a few good hotels. On the downside you'll need a car to see anywhere else such as Las Palmas, but it's only about an hour taking the east coast road. It's twice as long across the mountains, but worth the drive. Buses take a long time to get where you want, but cars are cheap to hire and the roads are very good.

Mogan has a decent beach, and it's a lovely town! The best beach, however, is Amadores, near Porto Rico. If you rent a car, you can visit the island, but do not go to San Nicolás (you can drive east, between Mogan and Agaete). Arucas is a nice place to visit, not touristy yet.

Las Palmas itself is very nice, a fabulous city beach and a lovely Old town: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/canary-...e-gran-canaria
