Where in Southern Italy please?
We are thinking about traveling to Italy in
November. We absolutely adored Rome and many places north of Rome before, but have not gone south of Rome. We plan to go to Sicily and do the Amalfi Coast, but would welcome any other suggestions. We will have about 2 weeks. Thank you.

Gaeta,
a beautiful coastal city north of Naples.

Cassino,
home to the Abbezia of Montecassino, the "home" of the Benedictine Order.
Abbezia was held by the Germans in WW2 and bombed by the Allies, and then rebuilt
(this time being the 4th time rebuilt)
It is still a "working" abbey.
Is a beautiful structure.
Has magnificient views and moving cemetaries.
The ride up the mountainside is astounding!
(I would not recommend it if icy!)

Caserta,
home to the Palazzo Reale, started by Charles Bourbon, modeled on Versailles.
Also, used in the filming of the Star Wars Episode One movie
(the grab for my kids, but once they got there , they loved it!)

Also, we did Herculaneum , (did not feel like driving down to Pompeii) and hired a guide for a private tour, which really made it informative for us.

If you want to see a different side to Italy, I urge you to spend a few days in Naples, a vibrant city that will leave you with many wonderful memories. It's an easy trip from/to the Amalfi Coast. And it has the best pizza in the world, not to mention the other wonderful food you can find there.
