Serious bit of market research, here. We share a manoir-y house in South West France with other owners, and, in theory, we let it when we're not using it. In practice we don't because the owners use it pretty constantly from may to October (and who want a big house off season, eh?)
But this year, two of my co-owners have bailed a couple of weeks prior to their allotted time. I advertised the first two weeks on Ebay (and on my FB page) and pretty much got nothing. We don't normally spend money on advertising because people always want it when it's already being used. We have half a dozen free listings on the web.
Where would you go to look for such a thing?

Ebay???? Actually, I did hear of someone renting a vacation apt on ebay and I thought he was a bit daft when there are so many sites specific to that. Maybe it was Craigslist now that I think of it, same idea, though.
I don't rent villas but if I did, I'd probably look at Homeaway. And of course Airbnb is pretty wellknown now. I maybe rentvillas.com or VRBO.

Hi
Try Craigslist. I think it's free. You also could try - http://www.purefrance.com/renting-your-property.php. I don't know anything about them though. Good luck.

You could try Gumtree. Look under Property / To Rent / Holiday Rentals, then Outside UK. Ads are free.

We've used the UK site and Australian site a lot to sell things - my tip is be wary of scams.

Why wouldn't it be? We often don't plan far out and frequently book last minute. My first inclination would be to use the sites like VRBO or Homeaway that I regularly use. And, if you offer a last minute renter discount, you'd probably have more luck too.
