Have you been to Paris before? Can you see and do everything you want to do in Paris in 2 days? Sounds unlikely but only you can make the decision. Having been to Paris 7 times, we still haven't been to Vaux Le Vicomte, there is so much to do in Paris and so many other day trips to take.

Hi mag,
I take it from your question that this is your first time.
If so, stay in Paris.
You might find my trip report helpful,

We have been to Paris soo many times and still find it hard to leave the city for a day out..
I think this trip you should concentrate on Paris and on the flight home, plan the next, longer trip that can include a day trip~

Mags,
Definitely... stay in Paris. There is so much to see there that you'll be glad you did. I'll bet you'll be back, and then you can go to Vaux le Vicomte. We stay for a week every spring, and we usually do take a day trip somewhere, but I wouldn't take a day trip unless I was staying at least a week.
Best,
Sandy

Unqualified no, I don't think it's worth it, and I've been there (Vaux le Vicomte). One of my least interesting day trips I've ever taken. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't been to Paris many times and has lots of free time.

I've been to Vaux le Vicomte and think that when it is enjoyed with a trip to fountainbleu and Barbizon, it is a great day trip. In order to accomplish all of this IMHO it is necessary to rent a car. However, if you have only a few days in Paris no matter how many times you've been there, spend your hours wisely. Paris is a state of mind.

You could easily spend all 3 days in Paris, but you might want a day out anyway - if only for variety and a change of scene. After all, it's just as easy to say "I'll see more of Paris next time" as it is to say "I'll see an outlying area next time."
The choices for a day or half-day trip are many: Chartres, Givernay, Versailles, Auvers-sur-Oise, Fontainebleu, l'Isle-Adam, Mont-l'Amaury, La-Roche-Guyon...
