What's a good price for summer airfare to Italy?

I'm planning to travel to Italy next June-July. My tentative dates are June 24-July 5. What would be considered a good fare?

$600 would be very good (but unlikely). You need to add information as to where you would be flying from, you forgot that.

Thanks--
I'll be flying out of Philadelphia (preferably) but can get to NY if necessary. Right now i'm finding prices about $1300/per person. That seems a bit high, but perhaps I'm just naive! It makes no difference to me if I fly into Rome, out of Venice or vice versa. I would prefer nonstop

Last year we flew into Venice and out of Rome from Philadelphia. We had the (non-stop) flights on US Airways and paid about $700 in October. Last month I booked us into and out of Venice from Philadelphia for mid September and paid about $900 (non-stop), US Airways again. You can also book a Star Alliance flight with Lufthansa and have a stop in Frankfurt for a better price. I also found that looking at these flights for flying on Tuesday or Wednesday had better prices. Depending upon where you live, you could look at flights out of Newark as well. Good luck.

While this may seem impertinent to your question... it may help someone - - since by definition, summer ends with the autumnal equinox...

Northwest currently has some "summer fares" from as low as $605 (NYC-PAR), not counting taxes of slightly under $115, in September (lots of dates available) or as low as $689, in August (very few dates available).

In 2007, that is.

Best wishes,

Rex
