What goes with London?

I would like to spend 4 nights in London and 4 nights someplace else in late July. I would appreciate some recommendations of other places to visit besides Paris nad Amsterdam.

I would spend the whole 8 days in London. There is so much to do, you would never tire of it in 4 days. If all you want is 4 days there, take daytrips to any number of interesting places - Cambridge, Oxford, Cantebury, Bath, to just name a few.

If this is your first visit to London, you can EASILY spend your entire trip there and in surrounding area and not see everything. If you really want to do more, how about a train ride to Edinburgh? You can stop in York on the way, then continue on. The charm of London and Edinburgh is completely different, IMO, and both are absolute must-sees!

Have a great trip!

I think Mel's idea is great. York is a terrific stop, as is Edinburgh.

Jeff,
4 days is plenty in London. Hop a cheap flight from Stansted to Germany for the remainder of the trip.

Jody, someone one another thread finds it amazing that one would go to London more than once.(You would amaze him/her
I find that every time I go, there are still so many things to do and see.
I want to see Oxford, but never want to tear myself away from London, Richmond and Bath are as far away as we can get!

Oh Kate take it easy.

Opions vary and mine is that there are better trips to be had in other European countries. By all means visit London, but don't deprive yourself by visiting it more than once before seeing the rest of Europe.

First of all - your 4 nights/days is really only 3+ days actual London time since you have to travel there, get over the jet lag and part of the last day travelng to your other destination.

I recommend either staying the entire 8 days in London and maybe taking one or two day trips outside - Bath, Canterbury, York, Oxford or Cambridge.

OR spend 5+ days in London and 3 days in Edinburgh.
