Westin Excelsior, Venice Lido

I am looking for details re Westin Excelsior on Lido. I have researched the site, and the opinions re the hotel are varied. Anyone who has any information, please provide me with details re quality of hotel, room, service, frequency of the complementary water shuttle, etc. We have reserved a room with a "sea view." Any information on this note will also be appreciated. I would appreciate all points of view - good and bad.

Thanks.

Good afternoon, Kari
The EXELSIOR is the best hotel on the
Lido, it located on the ocean side of
the Lido just alongside the Casino, it
appears that their water shuttle would
be about a twenty min trip from the hotel, as the Casino shuttle makes the
same trip. I agree that this is a fine
hotel, but you are not in Venice, each
time you want to go sightseeing or have
lunch or dinner in Venice you will
have to take the shuttle and adjust
your schedule to that of the shuttle.
Stay in Venice not its evirons. Venice
is a special experience.
Richard of La Grange Park, Il...

Have never stayed at the Excelsior but been on the grounds and eaten there many times (going back to 1947, when it housed dependents of American military). It's a classical old hotel, with beautiful common areas. The bar and restaurant are pricey but elegant, with a bar terrace overlooking the beach. If you're there in the summer, it also has a very nice private beach and an interesting golf course. "Sea view" would probably be a good room but you might check to see if it actually faces the ocean or if it has a side view. The shuttles, very comfortable launches, leave about every thirty minutes.

Rod Hoots: What is it about the golf course that makes it interesting??? And is it the only course on Lido?

It's a very compact course, built on sand dunes, with many interesting twists and turns. Half the fun these days is observing the very chic, beautiful people who play there. You might want to check with the Excelsior on green fees. It is the only course on Lido.
