weather in Spain in June

My husband has a business trip to Spain June 8-10, 2007. I am trying to decide whether we should travel around Spain for two weeks after his meetings are over. I cannot deal with high heat and I am concerned that the weather might be too uncomfortable during the mid to end of June for me to enjoy such a trip. Any thoughts? Thank you.

theatrelover,
Where does your husband's business trip take you?
To avoid the heat of the south, if you'll be starting in Madrid, go north to the wonderful Picos de Europa and the coast of Asturias/Cantabria, beautiful "Green Spain", where the weather will be nice.

Or if his trip takes you to Barcelona, move up to the northern stretch of the Costa Brava (Begur-Aiguablava), then over to lovely Cerdanya. Another very pleasant spot for mid-late June.

Andalucia will probably be too warm (39C or more). Madrid has just had an unseasonable heat wave.

I echo Maribel's Green Spain advice but I would definitely add Galicia to Places you may be considering: My last trip was more or less a pilgrimage to Santiago in late June; and it was unseasonably warm there (25 C) but I stayed a few nights in VilaGarcia de Arous (a seaport) and it was nice there.

You might enjoy the Parador del Conde de Gondomar in Baiona, at the mouth of the ria de Vigo; or even Vigo itself: a very modern Spanish City in Pontevedra (Galicia). Check with Don Cesar Ballesteros at Hotel Bahia de Vigo: he may have some 'specials' he can offer you.

Yep, I'll second Ned's suggestion of Galicia in "Green Spain" as well. We spent 5 days at the Baiona Parador in late June, and it great! Pontevedra, Cambados and the isle of La Toja would be delightful as well. We saw only one afternoon that infamous Galician rain during our last June trip.

Thank you all for the information. His meetings will be in Barcelona. Then we are free to do anything.

theatrelover,
There's a whole wonderful world to explore north and west of Barcelona: the northern Costa Brava area from Begur to Roses to Cadqués and inland, the Baix and Alt Empordá (Catalunya's answer to Tuscany), the extinct volcanic area of La Garrotxa with its charming medieval villages such as Santa Pau and Besalú, take the little cogwheel train up to the pastoral valley of Nuria, explore both the French and Spanish sides of the ancient Cerdanya, the foothhills to the Pyrenees and the Swiss Alpine scenery and Romanesque architecture of the valleys of Boí and Arán. There's enough to see and do there to last a lifetime!
All I have comfortably, pleasantly seen in mid-late June

Have been to Spain several times - though never that late in the year. We were in Andalucia in late April and highs were in upper 70's/low 80's at first - but rose continually and it was about 95 when we reached Madrid in mid May. Andalucia in June you can count on 90's and higher.

The only place I would consider is the Atlantic coast near San Sebastian. Or else try a cooler part of europe.

staying closer to the north should be fine.. no need to go elsewhere in europe . heat waves can come at any time and any place.

if what you are calling "high heat" isin the 100's.. i don't think you will even have that high heat mid- june. would be a shame to miss a few days in sevilla/cordoba/granada.

the evenings should be cooler in granada. it is nestled against mountains.

i would plan most of your trip of north but take a few days at the beginning to get a feel of anadalucia in an airconditioned hotel (which the majority of them are) i would not relinquish seeing that part of spain over a temp. difference in june. now july/august.. that's a different story.

by the way.. bilbao had the highest temps a week or so ago. it was 41 degrees C while in valencia/sevilla it was 28/30. so go figure! unheard of!
