Good afternoon, Rhonda
Probably the closest beaches to Venice
is on the Lido, the eastern shoreline
had some find beaches, however most are
for specific hotels, however beleive
there are public ones or for a fee can
get to use their facilities. It is only
about a 15 or 20 min trip to the Lido
another 5 mins walk to the side of the
Island with the beaches. Check with the
concierge at your hotel in Venice for
information. As Richard informs, the closest beaches are in the Lido. The vaporetto will leave you at Piazzale Sta. Maria Elisabetta. On arrival, just walk straight ahead on Gran Viale Sta. Maria Elisabetta till you hit the beach. The public beach will be to your left and you may rent a beach cabin for changing and locking your stuff. If you prefere (more expensive) you may also rent a cabin from one of the hotels. Finally, if you don't mind travelling a bit further, you may take the vaporetto to Punta Sabbioni (vaporetto # 12 and 14) or Treporti (Vaporetto # 12 and 13) and go to the beach in the Litorale del Cavallino.
Paulo

It has been a looong time since I strolled the public beach in Lido last ... I don't remember bars or parlors in the beach itself. Anyways, Lido's main street is lined with restaurants and bars with outside seating, not more than 200 meters from the beach. Hotel beaches do have bars (normally more expensive).
Paulo
