I'm sure someone here who speaks Italian can help you but you don't say where you're coming from. It would be helpful to know that. Why don't you post the link the the bus schedule you're looking at.

Hi Anrienne,
Thank-you for your quick reply.
From the research I have done the easiest way is Florence-Pisa-Volterra
http://www.cpt.pisa.it/
But i find the information to get to Volterra is VERY limited.

Are you coming from Florence? You can take the bus to Colle Val d'elsa and catch a bus the rest of the way.

The other connections are listed on the town's webpage. You can use Google to translate.

hvanider:

If you are going to Volterra from Florence, kybourbon has it right. You take the sita bus to Colle di Val d'Elsa and then switch to a bus to Volterra. I've done part of this journey but made an expensive mistake: I missed the bus from Colle di Val d'Elsa to Volterra because that bus was much smaller than the one I first took from Florence and I didn't think it was the bus to Volterra; I was expecting a bus of the same size and as it drew off, I was told it was the bus I wanted. (I ended up taking a taxi to Volterra because I was determined to get there. Don't make the same costly error if a smaller bus should arrive at Colle di Val'Elsa destined to Volterra.)

To quote from the Fodor's guide in front of me right now, if you are going to Volterra from Rome or Pisa, "it is best to take the train to Cecina and then take a bus to Volterra or a train to the Volterra-Saline station. The latter is 10 km (6 miles) from town."
