VERSAILLES -- SATURDAY OR SUNDAY

We arrive at CDG on Friday, May 26 at 7am & leave Paris on Tuesday morning, May 30. Must-sees on our list (not in order yet) include: Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, Eiffel Tower, Louvre (2-3 hrs), St. Chapelle, Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, Musee D'Orsay (2-3 hrs), and Batobus at night. I'm also thinking of getting the Museum Pass which will allow us to "pop" into places we might not ordinarily visit (in addition to those listed). It will also allow us to save time in lines. If I understand the info on the website correctly, the fountains at Versailles are operating both Saturday & Sunday. If this is correct, which day do we choose, Saturday or Sunday? Any advice in helping me arrange our Paris itinerary would be greatly appreciated.

We are tentatively planning to group the sights as follows but are open to input, especially regarding whether to visit Versailles on Saturday or Sunday if we want to get the most value out of a museum pass.
-- Notre Dame, St. Chapelle & Louxembourg Gardens
-- Eiffel Tower & Arc de Triomphe
-- Versailles & Batobus at night
-- Louvre & Musee D'Dorsay

We will be in Paris for 4 days. So would like to hear any recommendations on the order in which we should cover places. I have almost the same list of places to cover as debl:

Versaille (atleast for half a day), Muse D'Orsay, Arc D Triumph, Eiffel Tower, Place des Invalides (Napoleon’s Tomb), Louvre, Notre Dame, Centre Pompidou, Musée Picasso

4 days is not enough time for Paris. Go to Versailles on your next trip.

Versailles is in Paris for all practical purposes.

Versailles is no less deserving of your attention than any of the other monuments in and around Paris. Advice against visiting there is equivalent to saying "skip the Eiffel Tower."

If you spend a half-day in Versailles, that represents one-eighth (a mere 12%) of a four-day trip. You could go to the Eiffel Tower first thing in the morning followed by the nearby Invalides, then perhaps the Orsay¹ until early afternoon. Take a picnic lunch to enjoy on the train to Versailles. Travel back in the evening after the indoor exhibits are closed.

¹ The enroute time to Versailles Rive Gauche from the Musée d'Orsay RER station is 34 minutes.

I think Saturdays are a tad lighter in terms of crowds than Sundays. Our friends live there so we visit all the time - if you have time, please take a visit around the town, it is lovely. On Saturday they have a lovely market as well. And it's all quite close to the chateau.

You might also consider making this "a game-time decision" once in Paris based on the weather. We are here in Paris now (living here full-time) and the weather has been sort of back and forth between warm and balmy or windy and chilly.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks to all for the great advice. There is no doubt that we will go to Versailles. The question for me is what day works better if I would like to get the most use out of a 2-day Museum Pass?
