Venice Water Taxis/Side Canals
Hi. Has anyone taken a water taxi from the train station to their hotel, and requested that the taxi take side canals for part of their trip there? If so, did you just point to the map and give a general idea of where you wanted to go, or just leave it up to them?
(I'm assuming that the water taxis can go on most side canals, or is that not a correct assumption? I'm also assuming it wouldn't be rude to ask them this, and I'm hoping that is a correct assumption also!)
Thanks.

I'm not sure that you can decide the route, especially since some of the side canals will be impassable for taxis--low bridges, construction work, and the like. I suspect most taxis would choose the most direct route.

Which hotel are you going to? Or is this a hypothetical question? If your hotel has its landstage right on the Grand Canal, the driver will most likely to refuse to take side canals (except you pay an extra for that) because that will be a detour. You do know the train station is also right on the Grand Canal? However so many hotels have their landstages on the side canals and if you are going to such hotels, obviously you must actually take at least a side canal or two.

Thanks, everyone, for all of your quick and informative responses.
We're staying at a place that is on a side canal that is supposedly reachable by water taxi, so that is probably all I will be able to expect as any kind of 'detour' from the Grand Canal. (We'll just have to save our money and go on an actual gondola ride to hit more side canals!)
