U.S. to UK through Keflavik
Hello everyone. We are getting closer to the departure date for our fall trip to London and Paris for our family of four and I have some questions regarding our layover/flight change in Keflavik. We have open jaw travel arrangements, flying into London and out of Paris from/to New York. Both ways we have about an hour 20 minutes between flights. What is the customs/ passport procedure? I have read that flying from New York to London (2 non shengen countries) we do not go through passport control as long as we don't leave the non shengen area (?). I have also read that if we don't have carry on luggage, there is no need to clear customs .If we do have carry on, will we have time to clear customs with this brief layover? Does that differ flying out of CDG and is this info current? The posts I read were a couple of years old.
We also have a change of terminal in Keflavik. How easily is this accomplished? When we flew out of Fumicino a couple of years back, we were in the wrong terminal and getting to the correct one was a little stressful.
Thanks for any input.

Wow Big Russ. You really like to sock it to me. Our flight info lists both terminals 1 and 7, so having never been there myself, I can only ask questions based on what I see on the ticket confirmation. I have no idea why they have two terminals listed if there is only one. It would have been kinder to mention they only have one actual terminal without the sarcasm.
Hobbert- Thank you for the information.

Tone it down - I found out the terminal information the same way you could have but chose not to: Google search.
Next time, you could thank me for providing you useful information instead of whining.

Big Russ- The information I got regarding passports/customs was from Google. Imagine that. I only asked that isomeone confirm that information and reading that my tickets mentioned two terminals asked if it was a big deal to move between terminals. The Iceland air website says they have one terminal. It also says they were expanding summer of 2016. Your response was not helpful . It was snarky, rude and meant to make people feel stupid for asking. If you don't want to help people or answer questions, don't, but there is never any need for rudeness. I also think you mistake not letting you get away this rudeness as whining. You're wrong.

Google only works if you know what to google. I did exactly as Russ but googled the airports. Questions answered. I think you overreacted. Russ doesn't need me to defend him but, he did take the time to respond and, personally, I saw nothing snarky or rude in his post.It certainly didn't deserve your response. It is becoming more and more common on this forum for people to easily take offense. Probably a reason I so seldom post anymore.

Keflavik is a very small airport but it does have a number of gates. I have flown through there numerous times and some of the time I've had to go through passport control and other times I don't think I did. I can't remember if the destination (sometimes it's been London but sometimes other European cities) makes a difference but regardless, that's plenty of time. Iceland Air is designed to bring people in from all their US destinations at about the same time (very early) and then fly them all back out to various European destinations an hour or two later. They know what they are doing so don't worry. It's nothing like getting around/flying through or out of London, Paris or Rome.

The following information is not guaranteed as things may have changed since 2013 and the circumstances are different from yours. We were flying from Toronto through Keflavik to Stockholm on a tight connection. After getting off our flight from Toronto the first thing we did was pass through security, then passport control. Security took a bit of time, which increased our stress levels. I was told we were passing through security because the Europeans didn't trust Canadian airport security
This someone dated Flyertalk thread outlines what we experienced (third answer most relevant to your situation):

Again, this may have changed but I wouldn't want the security check to come as a surprise to you.

Colduphere- Thanks for the link. It's good to know what to expect. It sounds like we'll be fine as long as our flight from NY is on time.
I truly appreciate the benefit of all of your experience.

Even if you flight were not on time, it would at worst be an inconvenience for you. It would be Iceland Air's obligation to get you to your final destination. As I said, their whole operation is designed to get people from various points in North America to various points in Europe. If your flight were late, everyone on it would also be late for their fights. Iceland Air would most likely hold all those flights but if for some reason they didn't, they would have to put you on a flight (or flights) to get you there.
The times that people have to be concerned about their first flight being late is when their second flight is a different carrier, and not booked all on one ticket. That's not your case.
