My husband and I have finalized our itinerary for our First Trip to Italy and are in the process of booking daily activities. Please HELP provide suggestions four our Day Trip into Tuscany area from Florence. We intend to hire a private driver for 8-10 hours and want to plan our day. There are so many small towns and wineries, etc. to consider, so we're looking for help narrowing down where to venture. We are active and don't mind hiking. Also we are more into scenery, foods, wine and music and meeting the local people and less into museums and art so please keep this in mind when providing suggestions. Also, if you have used an organized tour that you could recommend, we are not opposed to a small group day trip.

Max size 8 on the group tours, although we lucked out when no one else booked that day and wound up getting a private tour. Each of the two winery stops was unrushed with plenty of time to talk to the owners. At the second stop my wife got sidetracked for about 30 minutes trading cooking tips with our host We did the standard Chianti tour and our lunch stop was in Greve, where we ate at a very picturesque terrace restaurant on the square where I think they brought us the normal amount of food they bring for 8 people even though there were only 3 of us

Tip,
If you have just a day and a car and not terribly into typical winery trips, I'd suggest Siena + San Gimignano. we drove to both and there's enough sights, eats, and visual thrills in both. In addition, the drive to San Gimignano will take you througn rolling Tuscan country passing several olive farms and wineries. SG is a bit Disneyesque given its picture perfection as a tourist attraction, but nonetheless captivating. I'd recommed a late evening meal there before driving back. For Siena, park in the stadium on the edge of town.

Am in the same situation - would love to do a day trip that focuses on SIena and or San Gim however (also wouldn't mind a small organized tour) as long as there was plenty of time there as well as possibly an after dinner return.
For you, a good friend was very very happy with Tuscan Wine Tours. I looked it for myself but am more interested in the above, should you or anyone have any recommendations.

Laurie23 & others, I have worked with tuscansunshinetours and communicated extensively with their owner to come up with a private tour for my husband and I in April. We will be picked up at our Hotel in Florence at 8am, travel to Montepulciano (visit with Nobile Wine), next stop Pienza (pecorino cheese), next stop Siena (lunch), next stop San Gimignano, then off to a private dinner in the home of the owner with his wife who is a trained culinary chef instructor where they will prepare a meal served with their families homemade wine and olive oils, etc. I hope it goes well.
