trip to Italy with a budget of 8000 us dollars

So me and my two cousins and older brother are thinking of going to Italy to visit different cities and to see all the attractions and obviously to shop. My question is to anyone who has been...would an average budget of 8000 us dollars for each person be enough for a 2 week trip to Italy? We would stay at a hotel obviously and travel to cities go shopping and go see attractions i would believe we would take either a car or ride a train to the different cities. And the budget would include airfare roundtrip that are below 1k....but anyways i would really appreciate the help please abd thank you!!

Good heavens! 8000 dollars would be more than enough for 2 weeks. Well, depending on your shopping tastes of course! If you are going city to city use the high speed train. Cars are only a handicap in cities and in any case you are not allowed to drive in city centres. Petrol is also very expensive here and the major highways are tollroads. Use a car only for trips into the country, Tuscany or Umbria for example, where public transport is limited.

Of course it's enough money. Pick up a couple of guide books and read them. They'll give you average prices.

Since you're only going to cities, take trains.

It all depends on what you want. It is certainly more than sufficient for most people - but if you want upscale hotels, michelin * restaurants - and most important a lot of shopping - you can easily blow that amount.

Be aware that shopping in Italy is NOT a bargain. You can find excellent quality and styles not available elsewhere - but expect everything to cost more than in the US (starting at about 1/3 more) and up from there if you want luxury or designer goods.

Both my husband and I are spending 18 days in Italy for less than that but don't plan to shop. We did our share of shopping abroad when we were young, but have learned, finally, to spend our money on experiences, not things, and have found that we enjoy our travels much more now that shopping doesn't take time away from seeing the sights. Unless you have unlimited funds for travel, you might opt for a longer trip so that you can visit more places, or save some of the money for another trip. If you live near a major US city, you can probably buy almost anything there that you can get in Italy, and probably for less money.

I think you should spend your money in the way that pleases YOU. You can get the lectures and lessons someplace else.
