Trip report from Rome (including pictures)

Hi

My wife and I went to Rome on a 5 day visit in July 2005. This was our first visit to Rome and we had a great time there. I have posted a trip report with lots of pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com. The trip report includes info on what we saw and did in Rome but it also includes a section about where and what we ate in Rome, a short review of the hotel we used (Bettoja Hotel Nord Nuova) etc.

I hope that the trip report can be of some use to others who are going to Rome Get in touch if you have questions or comments

Regards
Gard

Helo gard, it is getting late here in California, but I saw your thread and clicked onto your website. Your photos are wonderful and I read a couple of the first paragraphs which were so interesting.

I an going to come back to this thread of yours to enjoy it when I have some quiet time in the next day or two as it looks so interesting. Thank you for sharing your trip!!! Best wishes and thank you again for such an interesting trip report.

Hi, Gard-
Another great report with so much detail!I'm glad you a Nikki got to experience my favorite city. I had a chuckle when you mentioned the creepy guys on the Ponte Sisto with the dogs. There's a thread about trolls on this board and I mention them.

Just read your report on your Rome travels and signed your guest book; Great report and pictures. Like you my favorite city was Paris until I visited Rome. So impressive. can't wait to go back there and also see more of Italy.

Hi, Gard-

Your pictures are great. I haven't read your whole trip report yet - I skipped straight to the section re the Colosseum because that was my fave part of our trip. I giggled when I read:

"It didn’t take long before we started seeing some ruins when looking into the side streets on our left hand side. Nikki and I were both like “Is that….??”….and yes, we were starting to get the first few glimpses of the Colosseum."

On our first trip to Rome, we took the metro to the Colosseo stop. We walked up the steps from the subway and lo and behold, there's the Colosseum larger than life just staring you right in the face. Isn't it fascinating that probably the most famous and awe inspiring landmark in history is so accessible and sits in the middle of so much activity and traffic? When I drive to work, I pass a shopping mall and a Barnes & Noble. When Romans drive to work, they pass ancient ruins. It's no wonder we all love Italy so much!

Thanks for such a complete and well written trip report. I bookmarked it so that I can refer to it when I'm in Rome in a few weeks.

Wow, that is one of the best trip reports ever.

Now I will send my dear engineer to your site and try to light a fire to go back to Italy in 2006. Last time we were West & North, but there is only one ROMA.

It brought back the day I pulled in on a bus, and saw the Colosseum for the first time- just as if it were yesterday. Roma!

Thanks, Gard.

PS. I was only in Norway one time, and you have a very beautiful country as well.

Gard,

I don't know what I can say that the others haven't already...it's a wonderful trip report and the pictures are amazing. Thank you for posting the link. I was just in Rome myself a couple of months ago, and it really brings back the memories...

Gard,
I'm so glad I saw this. Rome is my favorite city (so far...) and your photos are beautiful. Thank you for taking the time to put it all together.

p.s. I also read your site before my trip to TZ last year...still haven't made it up Kili, though. Your whole website is fantastic!

Gard,

Your site is the best, it's bookmarked on my computer. In fact, I printed out your trip report to Dubai for my aunt earlier this year. She was going there for the first time and your trip report was very informative.

I've read just about every trip report on your website and I too am envious.

You have traveled extensively and like how you are always full of information and never judgemental. I look forward to your next trip report.
