Trenitalia!!

I have found working with the Trenitalia website to be an exercise in frustration!! I would like to purchase tickets for a daytrip from Venice to Feltre in order to visit relatives. I would like to do this trip on Dec 28. When i input my information, Trenitalia indicates there are no travel solutions for the date/time. I played around with various dates/times, all yielding the same response!

When I checked raileurope for the same itinerary, I saw times , price and availablity. Price seemed a bit high to me...about 50e pp.

Should i purchase with raileurope or try another resource. I really don't want to wait and buy the tickets when I arrive in Italy. Any ides, anyone??

Thanks!

The schedule may not be uploaded yet. Check a Saturday in November to see schedules and prices. There is no need to buy in advance- just purchase at the train station from an easy to use machine. Do not buy from raileurope.

Price is 6.50€ (one way)for most connections. This route is mainly regional trains and there is no point in buying in advance. No reserved seating, no discounts and regional tickets purchased online have more restrictions than purchased in Italy.

Enter a date within the next 7 days to get schedules/prices. Trentitalia is in the process of loading winter schedules which start the 2nd weekend in Dec.so not all trains are loaded.

>>>Should i purchase with raileurope or try another resource.<<<

You should never purchase with RailEurope as they are a reseller. No need to try another resource as you can just walk up, buy the ticket and get on the train. The only reason to buy in advance is to get discounts or trains that might sell out (regional trains can not sell out).

Yes as kywhiskey says - you can take all regional trains - usually changing in Padua - to Feltre and there is absolutely no reason to buy those tickets before Italy - easily done - just write in English all you want on a piece of paper - two passengers, 2nd class, Feltre - round trip - then be sure to validate the ticket yourself before boarding by sticking it in a cancelling machine - since regional tickets can be used on any train that day you must cancel them yourself as conductors do not always check - honor system on some trains.

I would take the early train that doesn't require any changes.

Venezia S. Lucia 07:44 Feltre 09:23 01:39
Regionale 11106

You won't have the option of return train with no changes.

On many of these regional trains (including the one I listed above) there are no class choices - it's all one class.

>>>then be sure to validate the ticket yourself before boarding by sticking it in a cancelling machine - since regional tickets can be used on any train that day you must cancel them yourself as conductors do not always check - <<<

I'm not sure that is still the case. Many regional tickets are now sold for a specific time window.

If you take one of the regionals it's 6.05 Euros - the 11106 at 07:44 that goes all the way, or one of those that require changes, in Treviso and Montebelluno, or in Castelfranco Veneto, or it's 9.05 Euros if you take the one that requires a change in Belluno.

If you take the Frecce fast one first to Padova then the regional to Feltre, it costs 15.05 Euros.

Either way, do what previous posters said - buy the ticket a day before the trip at the counter or the vending machine or be early on the day of the trip to buy it, there's no point in doing it online.

Well this is something the OP should ask when buying the ticket - it used to be that if you did not cancel your own ticket you could be fined for not having a valid ticket - a cancelled ticket - if anyone knows for sure what the current policy is please comment.
