travelling from Barcelona airport to hotel

Hi there,

My friend and I will be landing in Barcelona airport in March. She suggested we take the train and metro to our hotel which is at the central city, to save money I am a little apprehensive. Any suggestions how we can reach our destination? How is the train system from the airport? Im concerned about safety, pickpockets and getting lost Is the Aerobus better? Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

It's easier to take the bus in my opinion. It's cheap (around 11€ if I remember correctly) and drops you right in the center, in Placa Catalunya. Which is very close to both Eixample and Barrio Gothic.

Are you staying in the Gothic Quarter? It's a 10-minute walk to Place Catalunya.

I avoided pickpocketing by putting my money in the inside pocket of my jacket. More practical than using a money belt.

Personally, this is where I splurge and take a taxi. After a long flight, if I am arriving in a country I am unfamiliar with, I don't want to have to think too hard and stress over navigating to my hotel.

How much money are you really going to be saving after you each pay for train and metro tickets?

It is very easy to take the airport bus, which is cheap, if your hotel is within walking distance of its stop (Universitat and then placa Catalunya, I believe). I did that and it was great.

I've never taken the train as it didn't used to run to the airport, if you are going near an Aerobus bus stop then I would not take the train/metro.

Since there are a couple of you, I'd probably just take a taxi, also, but you have never said where you are going. I wouldn't think it could cost that much split between you if you are going to a central area. But some people really don't want to spend more than 5 euro or so on the trip--I would agree if where you are going is very easy to get to by public transportation. I could well afford a taxi but have taken the Aerobus as my hotel was within a block of its stop. I've also taken a taxi when it wasn't so convenient. Personally, I prefer to take a train or bus than a taxi as I'm always a little apprehensive about them--will they rip you off, etc.

Why don't you say where you are going?

Not sure that there's a Plaza del Callao in Barcelona--I think there's one in Madrid, but the Carrer del Callao is in Barcelona. Do you mean the latter? If so, get a cab, it should cost around €30 and the bus will cost €12 for two of you. It's a no brainer really after a long flight.

We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel in Barcelona, which was on Gran Via, very near Placa Catalunya. I don't remember the exact price, but it was very reasonable. I agree with other posters; after a long flight, I want the trip from the airport to the hotel to be easy and no stress.

Barcelona airport to Carrer Callao/the Sants area is some 20-25€ with taxi. You are then close to the fabulous restaurants in the so called Barri Adrià and the great tapas bars and cafés in local atmosphere Poble Sec.

I'd take a taxi; that's what we did.

I'd "hide" important stuff and all money but a little day spending amount under your clothes in some sort of bag; that's what we did.

I'd urge extra vigilance and just watch out for each other and each other's belongings; that's what we did. We successfully eluded any pickpocketing and ignored most of the beggars, except for one guy on a crutch who actually poked my husband--twice--with his crutch as we stood in line at the Familia Sagrada.

We liked Barcelona (except for crutches-guy)and found it pretty easy to navigate on foot, and we used taxis a few times (rare for us) to avoid the public transport, as we only had 2 days and didn't want to spend a lot of time figuring it out. (We like Madrid better, and while we always use basically the same precautions, felt safer in Madrid and used the trains and metro with no safety issues).

There are some parts of Barcelona I wouldn't go to when it wasn't normal business hours in the daylight--ha!

I have never heard of Plaza (square) del Callao in Barcelona ( and who else who answererd above.) So i googled, ok one metro stop away from Placa Espagne that most here probably know, there is carre (street) del ... There is only Rubicund who bothered to check where the address you posted was located. By google search, as Rubicund said, you can find only Carrer, of the same name. If it is actually carrer de ..., then it is not a terribly convenient location for a first timer. And google street view shows not a terrible door. Probably that tells your budget. So maybe taking taxi suggested by most above is not really on the mark or i may be wrong. Anyway you really need to clarify about the address. Othewise most advises above may be useless.

The taxi fare from our hotel in the Gothic Quarter to Barcelona Airport, which our hotel arranged for the night before, cost 27 Euros. We expected it to cost around 35 Euros, which still would have seemed reasonable to us as we had two heavy suitcases and several heavy carry-ons. This was on Oct. 27, 2016, at around 8 a.m.
