Travel in Austria without a car rental?
Is it sensible to try to travel around Austria without renting a car...without sacrificing a lot of time? We start our trip in Prague and then go to Cesky Krumlov for 2 days. From there we would like to go to Durnstein and then to Vienna for a couple days. From there to the lake district around Salzburg, to Hallstat and Ebensee. Can someone offer a sensible suggestion to accomplish this. If we need to rent a car, please tell me!

You need to rent a car (or at least I would). We have found that when you have a car you have the opportunity to stop and see whatever interests you at the time (not see it quickly fading through a train window ad not even know what it is.)
I'm sure it is technically possible to take the trip you want via train and bus (but some connections may not be very convenient) - but you will be missing a lot of the flavor you could get by driving.
