Train

We live in the US. Visiting England this October and traveling from London to Plymouth via train. Want to know if it is better to book on line before we go, or wait and get ticket the day of travel. Thought is that October shouldn't be too busy. But wonder if getting ahead of time would be cheaper. Any thoughts anyone?

Yes, generally it's cheaper to book in advance on non - commuter routes like that one.

It doesn't matter if it is sort of semi off season. You want to book long haul train journeys like this one twelve weeks out when the cheapest fares are released. Walk up fares could be triple or more.

The British train system is the most expensive in all of Europe so it is worth purchasing tickets in advance to take advantage of discounted tickets. Of course, the tickets come with restrictions so be aware of that.

It makes a lot of sense to get the tickets ahead of time. Thanks to each of you for your advice.
