time left on SIM card?
Leaving for Italy on Friday (10/08). Boss gave me his cell with SIM card in it. How can I tell how much time I have left on the card or if I need a new one? Its a Phillips Fisio 625 it that makes any difference. Will be landing in Rome then heading to Lucca. Any suggestions on getting a new SIM there if needed? Totally new territory for my with this international phone. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Lisa S

You will need to know if it is TIM, Vodafone or Wind. You will not need to buy a new sim card, but you can buy more minutes at a Tabacco store. They sell cards to add time to the phone. Hopefully you can find one that speaks english and will talk you through it. There are also cell phone stores all over major cities.

Ciao Lisa,
Here in Europe what you can check is the credit left on your SIM card. This can be done with a code request sent from your cell phone to the Network.
If your SIM is from WIND (one of the 4 Italian operators) then you have to dial *123# and press the call green key on your phone. Let me know

Remember that the SIM card expires after a certain period. I think if it's older than 6 or 9 months, it may not work anymore. My understanding is that SIM cards are widely available across Europe, and you may very well be able to buy one at the airport if you want one right away.

Well, being the cynical person I am...
1. Maybe the boss is giving the mobile phone and SIM card so he can be in touch with the person.
2. Since as noted earlier SIM cards expire after a time if not used, perhaps his ulterior motive is to get the thing re-activated and extend the validity or to have it re-charged or if neither of these are being done, to use up the remaining time which will be lost anyway.
Not that it's impossible that the boss is just being a nice guy.
