Suggestions for Trip to Rome, Tuscany
It has been so long since I have been on here, but always look forward to hearing all the suggestions from you. This is the first stage of planning. We are taking our friends who have never been to Italy. Our plans are for Rome and then train to Florence and rent a car. Do you know of a villa to rent, a good area for a base to visit some vineyards and countryside. I have been to Tuscany but many years ago and stayed in a hotels. Our dates are April 7 through April 22nd. The airlines says this is the busiest month in Italy, I found that odd but maybe. Thank you in advance. Safe travels.

Try Tenuta il Palazzo

It's an agriturismo outside of Arezzo, and a perfect base for exploring the region. You stay in well appointed restored farmhouses in the middle of a lovely vineyard.

Which part of Tuscany interests you the most? I prefer the area a bit southeast of Siena. It would be close proximity to the Brunellos in Montalcino and the Vino Nobiles in Montepulciano. Or you could stay a bit northeast of Siena in the Chianti area.
Not too far outside of Florence is Le Torri. I have friends that have stayed there several times.

What is your price range?
I'm not sure if April is busiest for flying to Italy, but Easter holidays can be two weeks for many schools.

I cannot believe I put those dates....our dates are September...We took this couple to France a few years and they loved the countryside in Provence. I personally think that Italy is a bit harder to navigate but perhaps it is not being as experienced with it as France. With that said.....we want country setting, two bedroom, 2 bath...I used to do VRBO but can't find anything there. I think Montepulciano would be great area to make as our base there. I was thinking 2000 or so weekly rental.

Here's a link for the Siena province. I would look around Pienza (about 20 minutes from Montepulciano) if you want to be a bit more central. You can select amenities you need.

Keep in mind that some places are fairly remote along narrow roads (sometimes gravel) that are steep or curvy. If you plan to go out to dinner at night, you might want to stay closer to a town.
