Stockholm-Helsinki-St.Petersburg
I and my wife plan to fly to Stockholm in early June. After exploring Stockholm for about two/three nights want go Helsinki by ferry. Explore Helsinki two/three nights. Take train to St. Petersburg and pick the Trans Mongolian Train trip to Beijing.
Can any one help us with info about budget accommodation at Stockholm / Helsinki and FERRY INFO (including budget fare) to Helsinki from Stockholm?

The ferry to Helsinki is the easy part of your question. Silja Line http://www.tallinksilja.us/ does a very good job. Be sure to book the buffet dinner. It is superb!
Finding budget acommodation in Stockholm and/or Helsinki will be the real challenge. What is your maximum cost per night?

Look at my trip report on Stockholm for affordable B&B housing.
In Helsinki we stayed in a student dormitory (a room with an en suite bathroom) but I do not remember how we found it--it was in 1995.

The Silja Ferry overnight is great. I agree - the buffet is wonderful.
When you are in Helsinki consider a day trip to Tallinn Estonia on the high speed ferry.
Stop in and have a Hesberger in Helsinki!!
The train we went on to St Petersburg left at 7:30 am from Helsinki and was in St Petersburg early afternoon.
The train stops at the Russian border - you will have to declare any money and valuables that you are taking into Russia. When you leave Russia they will have you fill out a form listing what you are taking out of Russia. They may look at your luggage and any purchases you made.
