Viaduct des Artes (several websites) and http://www.metropoleparis.com/1999/433/433edgar.html (Street Art Market)

The Viaduct are shops in the arches of the old Viaduct, and there is a wonderful garden area on the top of those arches; the Marche de Creation is an outdoor art market on Sundays. I am green with envy!

Emma-
I can't tell you what the most special places are in Paris-there are too many! And you will find one all your own...I personally loved the Champs-Elysses area around dinner time...it's beautiful and the aroma in itself is something you will never forget...Have fun!

I like rue Mouffetard with all its markets...it's where I tasted my first panini which is a grilled sandwich on French bread and it can contain anything you want, chicken, cheese, veggies...and then have a crepe, again with just about any filling you want...I wish I could remember the name of the little place that became my favorite...it's off to the right by a a small circle area...anyway, this is near Le Pantheon...Emma, have a happy trip...I love Paris!

Be sure to see Paris Story, located next door to the American Express on Rue Scribe [to the left of the Opera Garnier]. Every hour on the hour. Then walk up the street to Galeries Lafayette to admire the window displays and see the tallest christmas tree ever erected in a department store [right hand building]. Have a great time.

Markets (all or partly indoors): d'Aligre, des Enfants Rouges

Cluny Museum; fashion museum down the street from the Louvre.

Keep your eyes open for flyers and placards for church concerts (many are free) - children's choirs, chamber music, violin concerts....if you can't attend a concert at St Chapelle, don't give up attending a church performance.

The plaza in front of the Hotel de Ville is a skating rink; big hooha video at Notre Dame to celebrate Christmas season; special exhibit of the architecture of Jean Nouvel at the Beaubourg. Always check out the Hotel de Ville - there's usually at least one free exhibit - usually something pretty interesting and unusual.

shopping: Magasin des Trois Quartiers, 17 boulevard de la Madeleine. It's sort of like a mall, with lots of fun little shops; Dehillerin for over-the-top cooking stuff; Gault miniatures on the rue de Rivoli.

Christmas markets:

CHRISTMAS MARKET AT MONTPARNASSE
Dates : from 30/11/2001 to 24/12/2001 11am-8pm -
QUARTIER DE MONTPARNASSE 75015 PARIS

SAINT NICOLAS FAIR
Dates : from 06/12/2001 to 24/12/2001 11am-7.30pm -
1, PLACE DE LA BOURSE 1, place de la Bourse 75002 PARIS
+33 1 43 76 13 00

CHRISTMAS MARKET IN THE PLACE DE LA BASTILLE
Dates : from 07/12/2001 to 31/12/2001 11am-8pm -
1, PLACE DE LA BASTILLE 1, place de la Bastille 75004 PARIS

LA NATION CHRISTMAS MARKET
Dates : from 07/12/2001 to 24/12/2001 11am-7.30pm -
1, PLACE DE LA NATION 1, place de la Nation 75011 PARIS
+33 1 43 76 13 00

BERCY VILLAGE CHRISTMAS MARKET
Dates : from 10/12/2001 to 24/12/2001 11am-9pm -
BERCY VILLAGE 35, Cour Saint-Emilion 75012 PARIS

MENILMONTANT CHRISTMAS MARKET
Dates : from 13/12/2001 to 16/12/2001 8am-8pm -
1, PLACE MAURICE CHEVALLIER 1, Place Maurice Chevallier 75020 PARIS
+33 1 40 33 50 30
