South west Ireland Tour (quick)
Hi. I will be visiting 1st Week of October 2017 from the states, its for my daughter's sweet 16. We will land in Shannon on or bout Sept. 30 fly back 10/9. Me & 2 teenage girls. I will rent a car( which I am getting nervous about driving). I would like to know best itinerary to see the southwest (Cashel - try to find family) then to Kinsale, Kilarney area, Cliffs of Moher, Doolin/Ennis then back to Shannon. I would like to rent a house somewhere near kinsale/kenmare for about 3 days - the girls want to go horseback riding. And a home base for ROK touring. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Dublin 30th,2nd
Cashel 3rd
Killarney via Kinsale (or not) 4th, 5th, 6th (possibly Kenmare as a base but not Kinsale)
Dingle 7th
Ennis 8th, 9th.
Depart 10th.
You could pinch a night from Dublin if Kinsale is a must (wouldn't be for me) or you want a night in Kilkenny. You will be fine driving if you can drive at home you can drive here only self doubt will slow you down.

Will not go to Dublin. Staying southwest. I wish I were coming for a longer stay -- was thinking of going clockwise from Shannon - I am going over maps and sights. I'd like to stay somewhere near a nice town - close to lots of sights where girls can go horseback riding for a few days and I don't hv to drive and can relax -/ LOL. Which car rental company do you recommend? Thanks so much for the responses !!!

Right got confused heading south west to Cashel about midnight over here. Plan still works if Dublin is a must? get from SNN to Limerick to Dublin and start. Clearly not the case,
So:
From Shannon get the bus to Cork have a couple of nights in Cork. Collect the car at Corrk airport then 1 in Cashel before getting on the track 3 nights Kenmare/Killarney. Or collect the car and head for a start in Cashel?

Paulg just wrote about this on his trip report of Scotland and Ireland.
So we drove into town and had lunch at a small French bakery with a limited soup and sandwich selection, which was perfect for a light lunch. We did about 15 min of souvenir shopping before driving the 10 min to the Killarney Riding Stables. We got there at 1:20, and got fitted on our horses around 1:50. The four of us were grouped with a young couple and two young girls, so it made for small nice small group of 8 riders plus two guides. The horses were good, though a bit lethargic in riding their routine route, the guides were great and very talkative providing lots of good riding information. The scenery of the ride, however, was less than spectacular as most of the 2 hour ride was through fields, woods or high brush. At the very beginning there was a nice view of the tallest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil (3400 ft), across the lake, and we did see several huge herds of the deer, but the rest was not really worth it. All-in-all the ride was fun and well organized, but I think we could have spent our time and money (very expensive!) better in the Park.

Paulg, I didn't know if she would find the part about your riding horses if I linked the entire thread. Hope you don't mind but you gave an excellent description of the riding there. I am sure they just want the pokey ride but the mountain treking is nice. Some friends did that when they didn't think their sea legs could take the ferry to the island.
