Single Ladies in Ireland and Pubs-safe?

Can anyone tell me is it is ok for single ladies to visit the pubs at night. I will traveling with my mother and would like to go to some pubs at night.
In general, is it safe for 2 ladies to travel around Ireland?
thank you for your help with this!

It is very much a safe place for the two of you to travel around in. The usual warnings should stay in your minds about going out in Dublin City alone. Big place w/ plenty of crime and the problems of modern society.Travel down to Kilkenny, then on to Kinsale, over to Skibbereen (treat yourself to a stay at The West Cork Hotel in Skib.) There are so many grand places in the area that you won't need to go any further. If you are set on going to the West, let me know. Don't waste your time on/in Dublin. Save that for when you have unlimited time...
I traveled alone all over Ireland, and never felt threatened (I did skip Dublin, though). I went to pubs most nights, and never had a problem. Most were welcoming, and I had some memorable nights! but do use common sense--some pubs are friendlier than others!

Hi,

I just got back from Ireland 3 weeks ago. I was only there one week, but my impression was that it was very very safe. Everyone was quite friendly, and I felt that if I lived there I could probably leave my car doors unlocked and even my house too - and nothing would happen. (many of you may think it odd that I noticed that... but I live in the VA suburbs near Washington DC, where it is an automatic reflex to lock everything...)

I spent the weekend in Dublin, alone - no probs. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend going on some of the walking/historical tours they have - as well as a "literary pub crawl" - hilarious and fascinating!

have a great trip!

Beth

It's been six years since I've been to Ireland, but having been there three times altogether, I'll add my comments. The pubs are safe, subject to the usual caveats about less than good neighborhoods in the cities. Some are not as welcoming to strangers as are others and some definitely are not as welcoming to women as others. So if you walk into a place and don't get a cheerful reception don't be too surprised and don't assume that the next pub will be the same. About 95% of the places we went over the three trips were just fine. That being said, things may have changed in the last six years since so many other things have changed in Ireland in that time. Ireland is a wonderful place to visit and the people are terrific.
