Sicily for 24 hours!
In July we'll be flying into Catania, arriving around noon on a Friday, and renting a car. We need to check into our hotel near Tropea by 5:00 the next night. We are really interested in the Valley of the Temples and the Villa Romana. Is it possible for us to see both? How much time would be needed to do justice to these wonderful places? If we can only see one, which should we choose? We have been to Athens, Ephesus, Rome, Florence, Venice, Pompeii, so have seen plenty of Greek and Roman ruins, but are always up for more. Is there something else we should and could see either in addition or instead of these places? We hope to go back someday for a more extensive Sicilian vacation, but want a little taste this trip.
We will be stopping at Trapani for a day while on a cruise in the week before we return, and will be visiting Erice. Any thoughts on what else we should do? Agrigento isn't far away, but we have read that it takes 3 hours each way to get there, which would be cutting a little too close to actually see the Temples and get back to our ship!
Thank you in advance for your advice.
