Heard its super expensive to shop in Switzerland.what are the best & reasonable stuffs to shop out there?? any suggestions???

Reasonable? Not much. For me, it's all about the chocolate.

I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to be able to say you got your <insert object here> in Switzerland, rather than just down the road at home. And what do you define as reasonable prices?

Swiss Army knives are still a little cheaper than you'll likely find in your home country, and a bigger range too. Range of different types of watches (and prices) in one place too, but again, depends on how much you want to pay for a watch. Chocolate, while it doesn't travel back home well (either through melting or mysterious consumption!) is always a good buy. Oh, and cow print socks!

My favourite Swiss souvenirs include CDs with rock music sung in Swiss German. They have some really good bands in Switzerland!

A research on Youtube prior to travel helps to find out which bands and singers you like.

You heard right.

The problem is that 'the best' and 'reasonable' are not often uttered in the same sentence when it comes to shopping in Switzerland. The most competitive pricing will be on luxury goods. But, even there, I don't find the pricing that exceptional, even for Swiss-made goods, such as high-end watches. Unless you have your eye on a Rolex or a pair of Bally shoes, I would stick to window-shopping and the odd memento.

If you want something that serves as a souvenir as well as for some practical use, you could look for items (wallets, bags, blankets, etc.) made from recycled Swiss Army blankets or Swiss Post bags, or the nowadays well-known Freitag bags.

I went to Switzerland last year and I brought home a lovely music box. How about bring home a couple of bottles of Swiss wine with the chocolates!

I love to shop but in two recent trips to Switzerland I barely bought anything. Chocolate of course and a Zermatt long sleeve shirt, a Sworovski (sp?) necklace, and a Swatch bracelet watch with little purse and shoe charms ($75). But I took beautiful pictures and blew up and matted and framed some of the Swiss cafes for my international cafe collection. I had fun browsing though.

Where will you be going? Some cities have great "brocki" stores and you can find some cool things at low prices. Especially German and Swiss traditional pottery (Kohler Biel ceramics, for example), which are out of fashion with the Swiss, or so it seems. Try the street and flea markets too.

Example: I recently found a pretty glass vase from the Hergiswil glass factory (in perfect condition and still had the Hergiswil sticker on it) at one brocki for 9 francs - and later saw the same vase (large size) for 110 francs at their online shop.

Foxtown in Mendrisio has good prices on some designer brands, but with such a strong Swiss franc, the price break is a lot less than it was two years ago.

I have not found the pricing to be anything attractive in Switzerland. I stick with what I cannot easily get at home or online. Swiss wine is one of them. Another item I buy are cookie molds. While many cookie molds, from Switzerland and elsewhere, are available at local kitchen stores and online, ones made in Switzerland are well carved and produce good results. I look for patterns not available at home. Swiss army knives are so widely exported, so only one I have bought was a model not <i>yet</i> marketed in the U.S.

Almost everything will be cheaper in the US. If you want a style or item you can't get here - that's fine but expect to pay a premium for it.

You can get some very cute toy watches (Swatch etc) but expect to pay more there than here.

I can't think of any reason to buy anything, except maybe a knife, in Switzerland. Ridiculously expensive country with not much for sale that can't be found elsewhere for much less.

Price depends a lot on the exchange rate which is totally miserable at the moment. But the selection of Swiss Army knives is outstanding, whether Victorinox or Wengen.
