September Mediterranean Honeymoon
Trying to figure out where to spend our honeymoon September 14 - 26.
Italy, France, Spain or Croatia (or a combination)
Want to split the honeymoon in 2 segments:
1) Start out slow in relaxing, quaint areas/villages (ideally on the coast or on water)
2) End in a bigger city like Paris or Barcelona
Like:
- Places rich in culinary traditions, history, old architecture and culture
- Medieval towns
- We're not rugged/backpacker types but do appreciate a little bit of activity like sailing or biking
Don't Like:
- Spending too much time traveling between places (I'd consider 6 hours on a train/ferry too much)
- Renting Cars, Cruises, Guided Tours
Places we've pretty much ruled out:
- Milan
- Florence
- Nice
- Madrid
- San Sebastian (heard it's amazing but there's a film fest in September which makes us think it'll be crowded and expensive - feel free to correct if we're wrong on this)
- Mallorca and Ibiza
Would greatly appreciate input and tips. Thanks!

Well for the first part looking for out of the ordinary look at
Cahors (France) (ancient town on a river bend with walls and deep red wine/bike paths and quiet roads) and then Barcelona
Lecce (Puglia/Italy) (some great cooking courses down here and bike paths/quiet roads around) and Rome

Around 5% of the island is touristy and of the large island there are probably two down market resorts.
The island is wealthy has a very developed arts and music scene, it has spent 20 years developing a higher end offering to visitors.
Much of the island is based on wealthy farming communities with small rural villages.
The image as a down market clubbing destination is around 20 years out of date and outside the main resorts the island is very quiet.
Compare this to say Dubrovnik which has become another cruise boat stop and is diabolically busy in summer.
Sicily also fits very well with your criteria and would combine well with Rome.

BC, I think we are seeing the same thing just using different words Love the island. Loads of flocks of cyclists there now. Still would go to my proposals in preference but it may easier to get to Majorca.
Dubrovnik nah
Sicily is good if you like hills, me, I don't like hills for bikes.

And there just isn' the same support network in Sicily. We gave up trying to hire road bikes and the standard of car driving is just terrible.
On Mallorca, cycling national sport status and dangerous driving when cyclists are around simply isn't the done thing. The same to a lesser extent in Northern Italy.
