Senior Hotel Rates in Scandinavia
We are in the planning phase of a trip to Scandinavia for June-July. Our travel agent wants us to choose a senior citizen room rate in Denmark which is US $85 per night compared to the regular rate of US $200. It has been our experience in the US that senior room rates buy inferior, small rooms. Is this the case in Scandinavia? The one hotel we have this information on is the Radisson in Copenhagen. Thanks for any information you have.

I do know that the SAS/Radisson hotels used to (and I think still do) offer special senior rates in the summer. You are not given an inferior room, but if anything an upgrade. The deal is that you get your age off in discount. If you are 65 you get 65% off, if 80 you get 80% off, and yes -- if you are 100, the room is free. It is an incredible deal for anyone over 60! Seniors are not treated as second rate citizens there!

I got married less than two months ago in Copenhagen and I say take the discount this is an expensive town. I have lived in DC and Boston, and currently live in Germany, and almost went into shock over the cost of a take away cup of coffee 4euros from a local 7-11. An average dinner without drinks was 82.00. We stayed at the Admiral which was lovely but worth 184 euros a nite? no, but that is the going rate for a nice hotel room in this city. Have fun but remember to bring money and lots of it.
MH

Joy: We stumbled upon the discount after we were assigened our room and the desk clerk noticed we were senior citizens . So, our room wasn't any different. The clerk than offered something called a scan pass which got us an additional discount and every third night at a member hotel at no charge. I may be wrong about how many nights earn a free night, but it turned out that hotels we had booked months before were members and we got free nights in Bergen and Alesund. We weren't looking for the discounts, but, what the heck?

Susan, who said I was over 60? It's just than my travel partner is over 60 and I share in the benefit of his senior rates. It's also very handy with the extra 10% off on airline fares as a companion to a senior.
But for the record I'm getting closer to that age quicker than I care to think.
