We had hoped to locate the stellar restaurant in Florence we ate at 18 years ago, which was housed in a former church, through a posting on this forum, but sadly the replies we received indicate that it no longer exists. Can someone please recommend an alternative restaurant in Florence for a memorable meal the last night of our 30 day European adventure? Thanks!

I remember answering your post a few weeks ago, but I don't remember reading anything that definitely matched the restaurant you remember. I did find one that was closed, but given its location in the heart of touristdom, and the fact that it had only recently opened, it didn't sound like yours anyway.

Have you tried posting on the TripAdvisor Florence forum? It gets much more traffic, including people who live in and about Florence, so you might get better help there.

I go to Florence fairly often, but for museums and art exhibits, not for its restaurants. I usually just look for a decent meal at a reasonable price.

If you want an "experience," consider a meal at the Belmond Villa San Michele in Fiesole.

The La Loggia Restaurant has wonderful views, arguably better at lunch than dinner but a lovely setting any time. Or dine elsewhere and afterward go to the La Loggia Bar for drinks and to listen to the pianist. The restaurant once offered a champagne breakfast for two, but I don't know if that's still the case.

If you have a reservation, you can use the hotel's shuttle service from/to Florence. Or just take taxis.

You might look into Ristorante Buca Mario near Piazza Santa Maria Novella. We had a very good Italian dinner there, with a thoroughly Italian atmosphere. Enjoy Florence!

I have suggested Villa San Michele in the past - http://www.belmond.com/villa-san-mic...ts-in-florence. A truly magical place but I prefer dinner with the sparkly views over Florence.

A cheaper but almost equally spectacular location is La Loggia at Piazzale Michelangelo - http://www.ristorantelaloggia.it/en-index.php

Much depends upon your price range and gastronomic preferences.

I can't go to Florence without having bistecca fiorentina. I always do a little research to see what is currently recommended. Last time we went to Trattoria I Due G and it was very good. Not fancy but not too casual; just delicious.
