Searching for a certain type of postcard
In 2002, on our first trip to Paris, while I was at CDG waiting to board I thought I'd spend the last few Euro I had in my pocket. I bouthg one of those postcards that you punch out the pieces and put it together to make a monument..like Notre Dame, which is the one I purchased. When we were there in Decemeber I looked all over for more of those postcards but couldn't find them. I'd love to get one of the Eiffel Tower and other monuments. Anyone have any idea where I might find them, or if anyone is going to Paris could you keep an eye out for them for me?

Those cards were great sandi - we bought various one for nieces and nephews when we were in Paris in 2003. We found them in a couple of the "tourist trap" shops but had to look in a few different ones to get enough, so they were either v. popular or maybe only available for a short time. ??? I hope someone can help you out!
The other neat small thing we got in Paris for the kids was some period cardboard figurines from the Comedie-Francaise shop. You can check out the boutique on their website at www.comedie-francaise.fr

sandi, I have a bunch of them that are more than 15 years old. Back then they were easy to find but, as you've found out, not so easy now. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing some in one of the souvenir shops that are on Rue de Rivoli. Museum gift shops might be another plausible spot, too.

Sandi..I'm going next week and they sound like a wonderful small gift for children. If I see any , I'll bring home a few extra for you. We'll be back on the 23rd and I'll post then.
Taggie..your suggestion is great too, I'll have to look for those too!

The only one I have is Notre Dame, so I'll take any other monument you can find. If I recall, even 2 years ago the were over 2 euro each. Feel free to email me directly [email protected] when you return. Thanks!!!

Hi Sandi, we leave tomorrow and I will be glad to join Judy in the search. I have 12 nieces/nephews so if we both find them, I can still put mine to good use. Fortunately, I'll have my MIL w/me and she's the queen of shopping. Maureen

Just wanted to add something so that folks know what sandi's referring to...
these aren't cards per se but punch-out pieces that come on a card.... you assemble the pieces into a cardboard mini model of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe....
They are (were) really neat - easy to pack and a sweet little souvenir.

What a nice thing to say, taggie.
I looked on the back of my postcard buildings and it says "copyright 1986 J.M. Appert - Editions - Clair de Lune" Printed in Greece.
So I googled it to see if I could come up with a picture so if anyone was looking, they'd know what we're all talking about. Here's what I came up with:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-...-MAQUETTE.html
BTW, it's all Greek to me.

This is the most helpful crowd for sure. In 2000, while in Italy, my son got inspired while drinking an Orange fanta soda and decided he wanted an orange tabby cat and wanted to call it Fanta. After we got one, I though it would be appropriate to get a metal Fanta cap to use as a name tag on her collar and wanted it to come from Italy. I asked and received several in the mail from lovely Fodorites which they had brought back for me from Italy.

Jody, you have a terrific trip too!
Taggie and dln, thanks for the additional info. At first I thought they were like jig-saws but now see that they are 3-dimensional.
Sandi, I love the Fanta story. I'll email/post when I get back.

Yes, dln, that's it!! Nice work.
Funny that when we were in Greece in August/Sept we couldn't find anything similar, and we really looked because we thought the Paris ones were so great. I think we liked them more than the recipients.
I really need to go back to Paris soon to look for more myself.
Alas, no European trips are in the works for us this year...
Happy travels to those lucky enough to be going soon.

Hi
I just went to my bottom desk drawer, and I have one of the Eiffel Tower, but it's mangled, I was careless and let it get mashed between some folders and books. I'm so sorry.
However, this is the company that makes it:
Editions Mirontaine, 32 rue Saint Maur, Bordeaux 33000
tel 33 557870201
fax 33 557870954
