Scotland- Good stopping point between Edinburgh and Eriska Isle
My Husband and I will be in Edinburgh from Aug 22- 26th. We are heading to Isle of Eriska on the 28th. And from there onto Inverness and Isla of Skye. SO...That gives us 1 day and 1 night (Aug 27th) to add one other stop or adventure into our time there. I am looking for a suggestion of a great place to go that is perhaps somewhat on the way from Edinburgh to Eriska..... taking into account that it is prime season. We don't tend to love tourist traps (We live is NYC), so something a little bit more mellow would be great. We are renting a car so getting about shouldn't be a problem. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I'd stay in/near Callander or perhaps in Killin.
Either the Roman Camp in Callander or the Lake Hotel would be wonderful.

You might also look at a drive that starts with a visit to Falkland, the historic town in Fife with its royal palace and terrific gardens, then an overnight in Fortingall at the head of beautiful (and fairly empty) Glen Lyon. The Fortingall Hotel is very fine, the village has a number of picturesque thatched buildings (very unusual in Scotland) and the Yew tree in the churchyard is reputedly the oldest living thing in Britain, maybe Europe. Fortingall is also reputed to be the birthplace of Pontius Pilate, who went on to dubious fame elsewhere.
The drive from Fortingall down Loch Tay to Killin and on into the west is very nice.
I'd also strongly recommend you spend the time to drive up Glen Etive (just before you get to Glen Coe if driving from Callander or from Killin.) It's stunningly beautiful, empty, and will be a terrific introduction to the western Highlands. Here's a map showing these places - https://goo.gl/maps/3D41q6cMKs62

Brain freeze - you drive <i>down</i> Glen Etive to the end of the road at Loch Etive, a sea loch (i.e. salt water.) You return to the A82 by driving <i>up</i> the glen.
