Salamanca Spain - stay in town or nearby?
We are travelling/driving in Spain in Sept/Oct and planning a few days in or around Salamanca. We'll be meeting up with some friends and will therefore have two cars. This made me think perhaps it would be a good idea to stay out of town and go in to visit the sites and I've looked at Alba de Tormes and Santa Marta de Tormes so far.
What would you advise? Stay in town and work with the parking issues, or find a little place out of town, and if so which town would be lovely? We'll be there 6th - 9th Oct which is a weekend, in case that makes a difference.

I was VERY glad to stay IN Salamanca. It's an absolutely beautiful place to walk around, day or night, and seeing that architecture in both lights is something I would not have wanted to miss. JMO.

Well thursdaysd, I was thinking we'd only have to take one car in then, or even go in by bus or train, but if it's really nicer to stay right in town then I'll look for places there and we'll just have to sort out the parking situation.
Any suggestiong of lovely inexpensive places for two couples to stay. I have looked through airbnb and homeaway but am finding that the central places are a bit expensive.

I stayed at the Salamanca Suites Studio Hotel, just round the corner from the main square. I see that it says it has a car park 100 metres away - not something I needed.

The problem with AirBnB apartment rentals is that it takes apartments off the long term market, driving up prices and reducing supply for locals. If enough units come off the long term market you wind up with a tourist ghetto - see Paris.
The problem with AirBnB in general is that people don't want a parade of random strangers in their apartment buildings or neighborhoods.
Apartment rental was fine when it was small scale, but it does not scale up. It is a classic example of the tragedy of the commons, where something that was enjoyed in common - a peaceful neighborhood - is exploited for profit by a few. (Just ask the people in Austin living near party houses.)
I understand the desire to have kitchen facilities, but the hotel I suggested has them. I fixed breakfast and most of my dinners when I stayed there.

Ah I see your point - I did actually look at this hotel but it wasn't available for our dates. Another example of travellers ruining the place - we all want to go to untouched places and complain when they are full of tourists even though we are part of it... sigh...

yeshekathy - thanks for understanding. Pity the hotel was booked, I enjoyed it.
PQ - sure it has a transport system, but if the objective of staying outside town is to get off the grid, they would likely be off the transport network too.
