Rose Bowl in Paris
Can anyone recommend a place to watch the Rose Bowl in Paris? We are a family of 5. One U of I alum and 2 current Illinois students. No thoughts of Illinois in the game when we made our plans last April!
Thanks in advance.

Are you expecting to see this live? That would be after midnight French time, and it's a holiday, anyway, when most things are closed, regardless (New Years day).
I'm not sure what PalenQ is proposing, I guess to watch it on the internet, although I've never watched TV that way so don't know if you could. I don't think internet cafes would be open then, anyway -- at least I've never seen one open after midnight.
The best idea I can think of is to try the Canadian sports bar The Moose on rue des Quatre Vents in St Germain, as they do have screen where they watch sports, including some American games.

OK well thanks anyway, sorry for asking. We found NCAA Basketball in the early morning hours on Easter Sunday within walking distance of the Vatican. I figured if we pulled that off, we might find a place in Paris to watch college athletics.
We'll catch it on our laptops, if possible.

In any case you'll only need to watch the first 1/4 or so - So Cal should have it in hand by then
From all the bowl matchups i'll predict an 0 for whatever - none do i think they'll win - and i'm a Big 11 fan!
I will be rooting for Chief Illinis however, in spite of deratory nickname
Have a nice time in Paris and there was a sports bar in Les Halles that used to advertise satellite coverage of U.S. sporting events

The Moose (or Beaver which is the sister bar) is where a friend remembers watching the UT-Texas Tech game. That is where the Texas Exes in Paris hang out. They had other college football games as well.
Chicago Pizza Factory also shows College and NFL games.

Palen, my misguided friend, obviously you did not see what the Illini did to Ohio State, nor are you aware that Chief Illiniwek has been retired, nor was that their mascot or nickname, but we won't get into that.
JP, we were able to pick up some US sports at a pub called the Bombardier close to the Pantheon when we were in Paris in October. (Who would of thought that the Cubs would have been in the playoffs?)Can't hurt to check...

Remember: there is no noise in Illinois
i'd pay to watch Cheif Illiniwick versus that Trojan on the horse any day.
I do note that a lame Michigan team defeated Illini at Illinois and So Cal just creamed Michigan last year in the Rose Bowl
I hope Illini have not changed their team colors from orange and blue to black and blue
good luck however

The Great Canadian (www.tgcparis.com). near the St. Michel metro stop, has five big screens, and despite being very hockey oriented would probably show the Rose Bowl if they were open. Send them an e-mail and find out.

A bar in Paris where Texas Exes hang out?
Let's keep this our little secret, lol! If word gets out to my traveling companions (all Exes) -- well, I can only imagine. Life here in Austin is tough enough during football season, but I WILL NOT -- repeat -- NOT let it ruin my vacation to Paris.

Upon reflection, I would say that if any sports bar stays open late enough, it isn't impossible that the Rose Bowl could be shown, because to my knowledge, there are no sporting matches in Europe on January 1st.
Of course, I would not need to watch such a match myself, because as a USC alumnus, I know which team is going to win already.

dfr- assuming you are not joking
the Big Ten is actually composed on 11 teams, since the addition of Penn State in the early 90s
but the name Big Ten sticks but some like to poke fun and call it the Big 11
or more commonly the Big 2 and little 9 - Ohio State and Michigan annually seem to play for the title in the last game of the year - others fight for invitations to the Bushwacker Bowl in Shreveport

You should have seen the steam coming out of my husband's ears while he sat with his arms crossed waiting for them to eventually get the Michigan bowl game on the tv on our cruise ship. That is the last time he will ever be at sea on New Year's Day.
Contacting your alumni club might help. There must be a pocket of Illini in Paris somewhere.
