Rome - is there a bike path along the Tiber?

There seems to be, but I haven't been able to figure out how far it goes or where it starts. I am looking an an apartment (Coronari Lauro from Sleepinitaly) near Piazza Navona and very near the river. For a morning run, a bike path there that goes north along the river, not on the street, would be perfect, but I can't find any complete details about it.

If there is such a thing, hopefully it isn't bikes only. I know we'd be able to run in the Borghese, but I'd rather not have to go a mile along a busy street to get there.

P.S., we'll be in Rome on a Sunday, is it possible to run along the Appia Antica or is it way too lumpy with the cobblestones?

We've stayed near Piazza Navona several times, at a Residenza on via dei Coronari, in fact, and I'm a runner who loves to run on vacations - I see such interesting things, at a time of day when all is quiet. I've run along the Tiber. There's not a bike path. You can run on the sidewalk by the river, with the breaks for street intersections (there aren't that many). The pavement on the sidewalks on both sides of the river was somewhat uneven, mostly due to tree roots that pushed up the concrete. From there, several days I ran around Castel Sant'Angelo (definitely run across Ponte Sant'Angelo) and up to St. Peter's. One day, I was amused to note 17 tour buses lined up there at that early hour. I think you could also get down to the embankment that runs below street-level, right along the Tiber, but as I was a female running alone, I didn't feel comfortable doing that (I could be mis-remembering this part, too - there may be no such embankment; I could be remembering a similar feature of the Seine in Paris.)

Another morning, I ran around Piazza Navona, then up via della Scrofa (which turns into via di Ripetta). This passes by the Mausoleum of Augustus and Ara Pacis, which was very interesting - I could see a good bit from the outside. I ran up to Piazza del Popolo, another fun place to run through/around. For this run, I was running in the street for part of the time, but it was Sunday, and there was very little traffic.

Enjoy!

Thanks. We love running on trips too, lexma90, it can be such an adventure.

Run.com just seems to show city street routes. I suppose we'll figure it out when we get there!

I don't know how you searched run.com, but I found routes through parks and along paths, including this one which is along the banks of the Tiber for about half of the total distance.

And this one entirely within the park at the Villa Pamphili.

all of which suggests it exists and you should be fine

I'd not run on the Antica, I've seen a Ferrari try and get down it, not a pretty sight.

bilboburgler - the OP's post is from 2010. Hopefully they found the stairs down the concrete embankment right beside Ponte Umberto and ran along the Tiber's floodway paths.
